ULAANBAATAR | Projects & Construction

Just surprised that I didn't find any thread dedicated at Ulaanbaatar I created one for.

Post here all the projects for the Mongolian Capital City: Ulaanbaatar.

Thanks!

Yep, it's about time too.

From another sub-forum:

Sited on the rolling hills of the up-market Zaisan district in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the Steppez is ONG&ONG's first major foray into the booming capital city of Mongolia.

The development comprises a 10-storey serviced apartment block, complete with full clubhouse services, such as an indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi, gymnasium, conference rooms and all-day dining, and 43 three-storey luxury villas.

Interspersing these luxury villas are exquisitely designed landscape areas for community interaction, such as barbecue pavilions, and amphitheatre and even a hot spring.

The entire Steppez development overlooks the city centre of Ulaanbaatar, backed against the picturesque Zaisan hills. It will be emblematic of contemporary luxury living in the booming Mongolian landscape.

A comparably wealthy mining town, erected in 1974 by the Soviets. Hence its no wonder it looks like a Russian subuarb. Meanwhile it has become the countrys 2nd largest city with 75,000 inhabitants.
A carpet factory is the cities second economical backbone

Main street

The main street with a newly erected shopping center

Adjacent sports palace which houses an Olympic indoor swimming pool

This has changed a lot in the past few years

Construction works

Overview

Soviet architecture is still dominating

Zoos Bank (2004). Was one of the first modern building and is still one of the nicest

Altai building (I think it was in around 2007). Nice

The backside of a huge shopping center (2008). Looks good imo

Narantuul Hotel (2006)

Bodi Towers. First luxury appartments in UB (2005)

Monnis building. Quite cheap cladding (2007)

Another one of these typical midrises

The "Brauhaus" (2001). Quite old and no real mid- or highrise. But quite interesting architecture - and antique

Regency appartments (2011) for the upper class

the new Wrestling Palace neat the airport (2011)

Anod bank and Olympic Residence (2004)

typical midclass housing

actually it doesnt belong here, because it was the first modern building in UB being completed in 1994 by Yugoslavian architectures: the Genghis Khaan Hotel

I also hope the attractiveness of the buildings will also grow in parallel...

Bolod Tower (2003) and UB city council (2008)

Blue Sky Tower (2011) and some more construction

Midrise buildings are the new trend

this is now about to be completed and looks quite okay

fills one of the last gaps on Peace Avenue. About to be completed, but looks quite cheapish

something classic , Gandaris Tower completed in 2007

another view of city council and Bodis tower plus a newly constructed midrise (2011) on the right (Express Tower). Looks okay but does not deserve this location on the corner of the main street and main square

the thin and tall asparagus like building in the background on the left is still under construction. Looks crappy so far, I hope they add some cladding or so

Dalanzadgad is capital of Mongolias, largest, driest and most sparsely populated province, which means a lot, given the fact that Mongolia is the country with the worldwide lowest population denisty

The basic facts: 50,000 people living in an area about half the size of Germany, thereof one third in Dalanzadgad.

Just drink a couple of beer and try to pronounce it: D-A-L-A-N-Z-A-D-G-A-D, not Dalanzadagad, as some maps refer to. And certinaly not Dalalalalalalalalazandgad

It is located in the South Gobi in the mid of nowhere. The worlds hugest coal reserves were discovered here and mining operation are just about to be started. The nearby Oyu Tolgoi copper mine and the Tavan Tolgoi coal mine will soon bring huge and promising changes to this small desert town.

Changes are already recognisable: so they have a small shopping hall with one of only three escalators outside of Ulaanbaatar

...including a well stocked supermarket plus a ATM machine.

a newly erected provincial government building (front) and a bizarrely-shaped office building with 7 floors

a middle class hotel

and even a four star hotel aimed at businessmen

For compariosn: this used to be the best hotel until about 5 years ago

and this is the still sleepy main street. Only 15,000 people are living here so far

But there is also other business in Dalazadgad, except mining, namely the processing of cashmere wool

...and tourism
