I found this
source http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...ad.main/27683/

Is really Bigger Better? What do you think about having smaller planes replaced by a bigger aircraft? Would it be better because you can replace 2 767-300 or A330-200 with a A380 and reduce the amount of traffic?.

Depends on the route. Like regional routes are better served with samller aircraft so that frequencies can be heightened but longer routes may be a different story, but if I were a pilot ight now, I would like to fly the 747-400 because it is the biggest

Basically, as I understand the topic, it is mainly aircraft upgauging, meaning an existing route could see an aircraft upgrade as it becomes more popular over time... it can also apply to aircraft downgrades as well since it means the capacity will be adjusted over time (given that ridership can change each and every month and season). Perhaps it can be called "Aircraft Type Changes" or some sort since some routes can see various aircraft over time (hence the aircraft code in such cases is listed as EQV).
