Melbourne looks taller to me, but maybe b/c of the larger number of buildings Sydney has it's harder to judge how tall some of them really are.

Melbourne is taller because Sydney has strict height regulations to maintain the prominence of Centrepoint tower on the Skyline.

Also the fact that Sydney has quite a balanced skyline gives the illusion that it's shorter than it really is. In Melbourne; Eureka, Rialto and 120/101 Collins Street tend stand out on the skyline... where as in Sydney, most of the buildings appear to hide one another.

9. It's beautiful, but with its height limit it seems a little smaller every year when you compare it to the rest of the world. I think it has fallen to the 2nd best skyline in Australia, and is on the verge of being blown out of the water by Melbourne's upcoming boom. Sydney, please lift your height limit!!!

I think it's more to do with the fact everything has to be kept beneath the height of the under side of Sydney Tower.
