Thought I'd celebrate my 100th post on here by uploading this picture I found on another thread it's a picture I always wanted of the back, taken from the Anjum Hotel. I think it may show foundations for the minaret!

Well, lack of greenery is what happens when a place is in the deep of a desert.

I think that finishing all that improvements comes first than planting some grass, for them.

Those buildings should be in Las Vegas, not in a religious city. Religious cities are what they are, because they are ancient and people can feel the history of religion in those cities.

Those minarets and this Royal clock tower are not ugly, but they shouldn't be there.

And, as described in the story of the tower of Babel, being closer to God doesn't imply building tall towers.

Agreed with you. Remember that mecca is a religious city and that tower should stand far away from there....

Again with this.

Mecca downtown host millions and millions of Muslims at the same time. Those pilgrims need a place to stay and sleep. That's why they're being built. if you're not a Muslim then you don't know the situation, people sleeping on the street due to lack of accommodations was a common theme.

Yes, this shows you don't know much about Mecca.

During season, Pilgrims travel via selected and approved Pilgrimage travel agencies. That is connected to the government of Saudi Arabia and the pilgrim's own country, and each country has its own quota that it cannot exceed .

Now, Pilgrims in this process pay in advance the required fee for the whole Pilgrimage, which includes all expenses, including living accommodations.

So all of those Pilgrims (3 Million approx) flock the city at the same time will have their accommodations, transportation, and food plan ready for them by their Pilgrimage agency.

There are simply no random Pilgrims travelling to Mecca during season with no prior plans or arrangements, who look for a place to sleep when they're in Mecca.

This is just one of the many ridiculous propaganda aimed at Saudi Arabia. And Saudi Arabia facing this growing logistical problem is trying to find the best solutions possible.

This is an excerpt from an Article criticizing Saudi management of Mecca:

Quote:
The Grand Mosque, meanwhile, is undergoing a £40bn expansion to double the capacity of its prayer halls – from 3 million worshippers currently to nearly 7 million by 2040. Planned like a vast triangular slice of cake, the extension goes so far back that most worshippers won’t even be able to see the Kaaba.
So, when Saudi build Up/vertically, it was accused of undermining the "Kaaba" and taking away from the "spirituality" of the Mosque.

And when they try to spread out and build horizontally, they are accused of such hater/illogical accusation as this " the extension goes so far back that most worshippers won’t even be able to see the Kaaba."

Those accusations mostly come from none-Muslims/secular Muslims, who only see Mecca as a stagnant historical spot that must not be touched, while Mecca is really a living and ever growing City that face the same challenges of any small spaced/crowded city face, and maybe even more.

What I said is just a reflection of what my real Muslim friends told me from both UAE and Lebanon but who are they just some secular Muslims and who am I anyways just a non-Muslim right!? Scary mentality!

Anyways can we go back to what this thread is about? Please can the moderator delete all unrelated posts? And do we have picture of the actual construction of the minarets?

Some of the critics and not all, I didn't think I have to say that.

If they travel to Mecca outside of season time, then yes, they will find un-booked hotels/rooms. But that's not the main reason behind the rapid building of Hotels. And prices will vary between hotels like in any other city

And I'm from Saudi Arabia, so don't give me anecdotal evidence from your "friends" in order to justify your uninformed opinion.

Should've thought about that before spewing ignorant attacks on Saudi Arabia that are based on hearsay.

Quoting my self here:
