Welcome to the supertall section.

There are people who do not want this here but: TV towers are accepted. Minarets in Algiers are in the skyscraper section and the cathedral La Sagrada Familia is in the highrise section.

I think it's overkill (where modesty is required) in a place where people should focus inward... But ihe buildings belong here....

just awesome, make skyline more balance betwen clock tower and area.
wish another tall building build soon as possible, then makkah gonna have a very nice skyline and minaret to call the prayer for around.

nice job to make holly mosque more visible from far away, and also great addition to skyline.

*just look the small 90 meters minaret, its just look like dwarf

The next project will be to renovate the Ka'aba to be 1km wide, long and tall.

I see nothing at all wrong with these minarets. They're tall ? Well, 200 years ago that was the idea with all church spires in Europe : The taller the better.

Anyway, whatever the rationale employed, what I think is important here is that these are not commercial gimmicks and they respect the religion as well as the architectural tradition. They don't look the least bit out of place to me. In fact, I think it's a shame we can't tear down that monstrosity of a clock tower and replace it with an equally tall minaret.

" While Mecca is a site of great historical religious significance,
it cannot be preserved in the familiar sense, as its history has not ended.
You might not appreciate what it looks like – but it matches the tastes and requirements of the present,
as every place of pilgrimage has done in its heyday.

The base of each minaret is 30x30 meters. They mention the 900 square meters area in each is going to be used as facilities but didn't specify.

The renders of the finished mosque extension look like a Dalek from Doctor Who.

As far as I know the Makkah Clock Tower is just over 600 meters. Why are they calling it a tower of 817 meters tall?

So its impossible that the abraj al bait is 817m high? I mean its a very fat building so its bound to look less tall than a needle like the burj khalifa. So is it 100% confirmed its "only" 601 m, wouldnt that mean that these minarets would only be 250 or so meters high?

This looks very scary and very Totalitarian.

Something Albert Speer would have drawn up for Hitler.
