it should, but i guess they choose to use a different scale this time... if you check the renders out they'r insanely tall next to the clock tower, they can't be anything but 400+

Abraj al-Bait stands on a hill hence some people argued it would be over 800 meters from the sea level.

If we follow that logic all the tallest buildings on earth would be in La Paz, Bolivia.

While this may be partly true, comparing European churches with the "new Mecca" carbuncles is a bit like comparing Versailles to Disneyland, or La Pietŗ by Michelangelo to a cast resin copy of it sold in the streets of Rome... mind you I'm strictly talking about architecture, not religion (btw, I believe these 400-600 meter monsters are blaspheme as well).

I know this is slightly off topic so I apologize but the actual clock tower thread is now closed. Apparently awhile ago there was a feature film documentary being made for the Mecca Al-bait tower and clock proper.

Does anyone happen to know if it was ever aired in the US or released? It seems like it was only shown in Germany a few times. Thanks.

Back OT though, this expansion project is just... massive. Let alone the minarets as well. Wow.

I thought the new minarets looked huge compared to everything else at the Grand Mosque. But then I saw them with the clock tower in the picture and they almost look small!

Not to forget there still are huuuuuuuge projects in the pipeline. There's gonna be a lot more around the mosque popping up in the supertalls section in the coming decade or two.

It's Abraj Al Bait allover again. They'll keep changing the design while those are under construction.

Nope, never!
I wouldn't be surprise if the space was used as media, security, or maintenance facilities, but not residential.
