Also, is that the Ka'aba I spy surrounded by the white protective ring? I didn't know that the Masjid was getting such a thorough renovation. Looks like nearly half of it is being demolished/refurbished. I wonder what its like to try and expand a place of worship whilst still letting people worship unimpeded.

I have counted at least 80 cranes. Oh lord...this must be a logistic masterpiece to coordinate all workers so that they follow the schedule. Like you said while thousands of people run around the Kaaba every day. Respect for those men and women who are responsible for the smooths running of the construction plan.

That is indeed a lot of logistics to enable people to walk in circles around a stone.

Also, when the crane operators are praying, do they turn the crane towards the Ka'aba and kneel in the steering house, or do they turn around at an awkward angle while keeping the crane at rest? Or do they climb out of the crane altogether? I can't imagine "not praying" is any option...

LOL.
I think no crane operator is sitting the whole day long in his crane without making a break. To eat something, using the toilett and for sure to pray. When they are religious people they will get the opportunity to pray outside the crane.

That's absolutely no problem because he is....

Perhaps "TENA" and the crane company have a deal for this unlucky case:

Comparing render and actual construction picture I can see that all smaller 12 minarets (7 built, 5 in construction) are there where they should be according to render picture. Also in render road close to mentioned supertall minarets look that they will be removed and this can be seen also on construction picture as some parts are already being demolished. So I think that render pretty much correctly shows final buildings.

So they will basically continue to extend that corner part of the new expansion to accommodate the supertall minaret which is closer to Dar al-Tawhid Hotel? - That's the only bit I'm on about lol because there's no way that the supertall minaret can fit into that corner unless they knock down the Anjum Hotel.

Look at how far back the render extends and then look at what's being constructed, you'll see that they've cut the corner off and they're not constructing anything in that part

They have so many billions to spend, why not spend a few to greatly increase the city's water supply in order to get SOME greenery growing there? It's gotta be the most unpleasant-looking city I have ever seen.

If I put minarets and outlying edge from the render and put it onto picture, I get this:

green - (almost) finished smaller minarets (7)
orange - smaller minarets in construction (5)
blue - supertall minarets to be constructed (2)
white - outlying edge of construction

This means that no additional hotel will be destroyed because of current Great Mosque expansion.

That's true, some greenery would be nice, although Mecca has probably the best climate out of any city in the world. Pleasantly warm and sunny throughout the year. I wish Bratislava would have a climate like this, too bad Europe is a frozen tundra
