with several proposals coming back it all feels like a deja vu though and last time it was looking like seoul gets several tall towers, all crashed. only lotte came thru all of these proposals in these years. Good news can't win my feelings anymore for this city, I need to see site preparations to start getting excited.

Yeah but we're not sure that this will overpass the 600m mark, it's just an estimated height... I read on an online Korean newspaper that they want to built a 600m tower: if this dream will be real, yes, it will be the first South Korean megatall

Anyway, I think that, if it will have 105 floors and if they won't built a spire on the top, this building difficultly overpass 600m

this thread and the news is like a korean soap opera. overly dramatic and only entertaining if not taking to serious and getting your hopes up for every high between the highs and lows.

An article at The Korea Times mentions just some of the companies:

Quote:
A total of 14 firms including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, a Chicago-based architectural company that designed Tower Palace in Seoul, and Kohn Pedersen Fox, a U.S. firm that designed Lotte World Tower in Seoul.

if you read the article that i posted above its says:

Quote:
The company will receive blueprints from overseas architecture companies until next month.
So Hyundai will have the blueprints until February.

So far there is no information when or if any of those blueprints will be presented to the public. Guess we have to wait and see.

I'll be really annoyed if they don't solicit designs from some Korean architecture firms. If Chung is really interested in helping Korea's economy, he'll help add some prestige to the country's domestic design firms by giving them a flagship megaproject like this.

The likelyhood of you being annoyed then is pretty high.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know, which are the tallest towers that were actually not designed by one of the big global players?

I don't know why so many Koreans seem to not understand that national prestige for them must come from supporting Korean things. I'm not talking mindless nationalism (which the country is paradoxically well-known for), but support for innovative, noteworthy, and things which are notably "Korean".

How can a whole country of people get this thing so wrong so consistently?

If a Korean firm will bring an innovative design it will be taken for sure. Of course Hyundai wants the best design, no matter which nationality the people have who doodled it on a piece of paper.

Foreign designers will surely add Korean elements to the building.
Same like KPF based the design of Lotte World Tower on Korean traditional art and ceramics.

Anyway, the complex will be build by korean companies and korean workers, generating a lot of prestige, workplaces and economic value.
Is it that relevant who drew the design? The execution of the project is more important, in my opinion.
