Hyundai asked for a cultural landmark; a headquarters skyacraper, a hotel, and a convention center based on Volkswagen’s Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Germany. That's why there are only two buildings

f**king wong sun mayor again trolling against HYUNDAI supertall

"$1 billions donation too small for public."

"571M height is just HYUNDAI'S HOPE.....HYUNDAI can't built taller than LWT if safety didn't satisfied" DONGNAMGUNCHUJIN of seoul concern SAYS

according to the report HYUNDAI HQ is 8fl lower than LWT meanwhile 16m taller than LWT

Because is's base accommodate convention facility such like a car exhibition and world dealer conference.

LWT is just commercial base but Hyundai hq concentrated on hyunda&kia's car exhibition facility for the global market.

therefore building's ceiling more upper than ordinary supertall.

plz look carefully you can see 7fl basement in the main tower,

I'm glad Hyundai isn't wasting their money on a 1km tall building. That kind of overbuilding doesn't impress anyone; it's just a waste of resources in every way. I'm also glad that they appear to have gone with a podium, and not a bunch of green space that'd go unused. Now here's to going that they put solar panels on it.

I think he means what architecture firm. Aren't there many firms turning in proposals? Maybe this is just Hyundai's preferred massing/site plan.

I'm with you on these points. A 1km tower would be a pure vanity project and a waste. Better to have a cluster of efficient supertalls or even a megatall or two. And I agree that it's good they're eschewing a big open space, which is ruining similar mega-projects in China and elsewhere. 21st Century architecture and design is a whole lot more sophisticated than just "build as tall as possible." Make it smart, efficient and connected to the urban fabric.

What the picture says:

Hyundai GBC with 571m
Lotte Tower with 555m
and the planned Lotte Busan Tower with 510m (not yet started).
Those three will be the highest buildings in Korea once finished.

On the opposite side of the complex there is the coex mall and it's 227m high business tower.

View of the complex area. A lot of green and open space!
(sorry, couldn't find a bigger picture)

A simple comparison between Lotte Tower and Hyundai GBC.
Expected completion is around 2016 for LWT and 2020/21 for Hyundai Tower

Same opinion here, like other users.
A 1km tower would be far beyond economic long-term feasibility and create an image of vanity and wastefulness.
This "mine-is-bigger" mentality would not help Hyundai as a brand, actually it would rather make a false/negative image of the company.

Quote:
Hyundai said it designed the building 10 stories higher than an existing plan of 105 stories because it decided to also move safety management personnel to the Samseong-dong office.

Originally they planned 105 floors, but now they decided to also move an additional department into the tower. This way the need for floors increased to 115 floors.
Even higher than planned before!

They also seem to be very generous with the floor height, as the tower is taller than Lotte World Tower, which has 125 floors.
It seems like Hyundai decided for the optimal mix of height and needed floors space!

Hyundai is expected complete the payment transaction for the KEPCO land by September 2015, and will likely start construction in January 2017.

Construction start is possible in early-mid 2017, if everything goes well.
The next steps is the analysis and negotiation of the building's effects on the environment, traffic, safety issues, etc.

Anyway, this is an amazing project and I'm positively surprised about the height of 571m!
Higher than they even planned before, yay

plus we have to keep on iron inchen chungla tower
because they try to built tower taller than LWT even primary idea though.
and if seoul government support this project as promise before then this tower begin construction more early than expect.

@KillerZavatar, can you add the 'Convention Hotel' (241.3m - 62 fl) in the Seoul diagram? It's part of the project
