Actually I early heard of an early S2 date for demolition, so it's great news if they actually start as early as 2 months away from now. Thanks for the update.

First sign of construction prep - Hundreds of coniferous trees that used to forest the KEPCO site were temporarily relocated somewhere else.
Miss the greenery? Don't worry, sounds like they'll re-forest the site once construction nears an end for the GBC.

Today Gangnam district suggested HYUNDAI TOWER's plan
-they say we will support all help to project as possible as they can
-we will protect from all kind of negative interference about project
-Youngdong daero must simultaneously U/C begin with HYUNDAI TOWER
-So then that HYUNDAI TOWER AND Youngdong daero WILL BE amazing complex land mark
-PROJECT MUST PREPARE huge parking lot for mass tourism

What's Youngdong daero? Why will tourists go there? tourists generally aren't interested in skyscrapers, especially boxes.

Yeongdongdaero (영동대로) is the avenue between the COEX and the future Hyundai GBC. See below :

http://news.joins.com/article/19239869

The actual avenue goes all the way from the foot of the mountain (Daemosan) to the Yeongdong bridge in Cheongdam, but the core area goes between Samseong Station and Bongeunsa station. It's actually full of tourists already. You have a variety of touristic assets such as...
Hotels : COEX Intercontinental, Grand Intercontinental, Park Hyatt, Oakwood...
Cultural / historical places : Bongeunsa temple
Shopping : COEX Mall (as well as aquarium, cinema...), Lotte Duty Free, Hyundai Department Store, Parnas Mall.

So it is already an important location for tourists. The problem is that people don't venture onto Yeongdongdaero much, and stay on the west side, usually in or around the COEX Complex. But there are many tourists in the area. Not like Myeongdong, but still fairly good.

Also, business tourists are plenty. COEX is one of the world's largest convention center, so lots of professionals heading there

I think this could work. You're absolutely true when you say tourists don't care about skyscrapers. But they do care about landmarks with observation desks, so if GBC gets built, people will come and visit it. Especially since the location for the observation tower will be better than the Lotte World Tower.

Despite it's location, COEX area has suffered from a lack of transportation. Line 9 only started service at Bongeunsa last year, so until then it was only Samseong Station on line 2. But still, both lines follow a East-West axis, and the lack of a transfer station and of a North-South axis does hurt the area's accessibility. The transfer station should help greatly : Uijeongbu KTX, GTA line, Sinsa-Wirye line,...
Finally, there is a project, once Hyundai GBC is built, to turn the avenue into a Korean Times Square / Shibuya, with lots of billboards everywhere. So that should also boost tourism in that area.

The tourists won't "visit" Youngdong Ave. just to see skyscrapers in and of itself. But they'll "see" them when they're using the COEX mall and other amenities near the Ave, as well as the new conference center and concert venues planned alongside the GBC.

Saying that "tourists generally aren't interested in skyscrapers" is a pretty subjective thing to say.
It's more than likely that a 553m building with other 200m+ buildings surrounding it will catch the attention of an average person.

So to summarize my point, no - the tourists won't visit Yongdong Ave. just to please their eyes with "skyscrapers, especially boxes", but it becomes an attraction when it synergizes with the famous amenities surrounding it.

They're going to have to do something about the streetscape of Yeongdong-daero. It's incredibly pedestrian-unfriendly because the street is far too wide. The road is, what, 14 lanes wide by a quite count in that picture, and that's objectively a lot. Subjectively, it's just too imposing to provide a comfortable place to walk along--too many vehicles means too much noise. To put it simply, people might come for the attractions, but they won't stay longer than they have to, which is what'll keep it from becoming anything like Shibuya/Times Square.

Exactly. This will be more comparable to watching the Hong Kong Island lightshow from across the sea at Victoria Harbor (where that wide road is equivalent to the sea), rather than to Shibuya or Times Square. Only places like Myeong dong have the density for a Shibuya type space, though unfortunately there's no big enough square or plaza in Myeong dong.

So they do not deserved to see these kind of beautiful project through photos

yyyyyy by Inno Inno, Flickr에서

official SEOUL GOVERNMENT SOURCES
Look carefully Another tall tower between HYUNDAI and LWT.
Around 160~240m in Olympic stadium redevelopment project.<= originally that site proposed supertall when former seoul mayor.
IF former rational mayor regime then it would over 500m height but now mayor is king. What can i do? Just give up.

Inno, a 500m tower is, strictly speaking, never going to be a rational decision, especially in consideration of everything else about Seoul.

For the five millionth time, please try to keep political comments to a minimum.

Also, the location of the tower in that picture suggests the tower that's part of the Songpa stadium redevelopment. An Olympic redevelopment would be to the right of LWT from the perspective of that skyline.
