I don't know what about that article suggests "really soon." It says their task force is just starting the process of designing the tower. If that's the case it will probably be more than a year before there's an official design and at least several months before we see anything conceptual.

I have very high hope for this project being built! I only wish that a famous foreign architectural firm designs this project. fingers crossed for AS+GG!

So do i i hope preference foreign company and design AS MEGATALL OVER 1KM. but
according to the report 현대종합설계 HYUNDAI ARCHITECTURE FIRM will be design this project(HYUNDAI HQ and other facilities)

And construction will be handle by 현대건설(HYUNDAI CONSTRUCTION COMPANY)&현대엔지니어링(HYUNDAI ENGINEERING COMPANY)
Especially 현대건설(HYUNDAI CONSTRUCTION COMPANY) have a experience to built BUSAN FINANCING CENTER부산국제금융센터(63FL 289m)와 SEOUL KOREA ECONOMY CENTER 전경련회관(50층 246m)

Personally i don't like that design(triangle shape)
It seems like a another version of shard of london.
but respect your opinions. in theses days round shape foot print building is common. we needs some creative one.

I doubtful that Hyundai engineering have ability to design supertall building. HYUNDAI have a ability to built supertall but design is skeptical. maybe foreigner firm need like a SOM KFP?

South Korea has given us so many great renders ==> right especially yongsan IBD
Incheon tower is disappear. but instead

Go to Korea's Mass Studies architectural firm! They do wonderful, very innovative designs, and something of this scale could really put them (and Korea!) on the global architecture map!

(서울=연합뉴스) 서미숙 기자 = 현대자동차그룹이 서울 강남구 삼성동 한국전력 부지에 신규 사옥 건립을 위해 닻을 올렸다.

12일 현대자동차그룹과 현대건설은 삼성동 한전부지에 들어설 사옥 건설을 위한 '강남사옥프로젝트 태스크포스(TF)팀'을 현대건설 산하 조직으로 신설하고, 정수현 현대건설 사장을 단장으로 하는 조직 인사를 단행했다.

TF는 정수현 사장을 비롯해 총 8명으로 꾸려졌으며 현대건설에서는 김인수 건축사업본부장 등 5명이 공사관리와 사업개발·총괄기획 등을 담당하고, 현대자동차와 기아자동차, 현대종합설계 등 계열사에서 각 1명씩 3명이 파견돼 인허가와 설계 등을 지원한다.

사무실은 현대건설이 있는 종로구 계동 사옥에 마련된다.

현대자동차그룹은 지난 9월 강남 최대의 금싸라기 땅인 한전 부지 입찰에 참여해 10조5천500억원의 땅값을 써내고 이 땅의 주인이 됐다.

현대건설 관계자는 "TF에서 앞으로 강남 사옥과 관련한 인허가와 설계, 건설 등을 총괄하게 될 것"이라고 말했다.

According to the HYUNDAI "OFFICIAL GROUP BUSINESS RESULT CONFERENCE" THEY WILL BE INVEST ANOTHER $ 5 BILLIONS IN THIS PROJECT.
(they already buying land as $ 10 billions)

Therefore Official project cost will be $ 15 billions project.
which means $ 5 BILLIONS IS NEED FOR SUPER TALL TOWER CONSTRUCTION COST .

I'm no expert, but $5bn sounds like a lot of money for what is in the end a relatively small area. Sound like that amount of money means that Hyundai will try to outdo Lotte (either in building size alone or by having a twin tower or another grandiose feature)

right $5 billions is big money for pure construction cost.

yesterday 입지규제최소지구 minimum restriction-free district for construction law pass in congress(this law bench marking from rokbongyhilll of tokyo and marinabay of singgapore)

according to the report, HYUNDAI HQ/YONGSAN IBD/OLYMPIC STADIUM AREA/GURO-SHINDORIM/SEOUL STATION AREA

two or one of them can be first apply this positive promotion law.

Especially HYUNDAI HQ project expect first apply this promotion law.

If this law apply to this project, then it can get 1000~1500% gross area.
Now under restriction this project expect only 800% gross area.(LWT about 640% gross area)

Base on this primary plan(800%) HYUNDAI and most expert expect over 100floor MAIN twin tower OR one over 100fl tower and other surrounded building.

but if new law apply to this project, then more amazing scale disclosed.
Which mean total gross area become rising(even DOUBLE! possible)
Therefore HYUNDAI HQ will much taller or much larger scale project than expect now.
So hyundai can choose over 100fl 4 unit building OR 200fl 2 tower or one 400floor tower(?)
but over 100fl 4 building is crazy
So only way is built to taller and taller.

In short if 입지규제최소지구 apply to this project then it can be TALLER OR LAGER.
It can be expand vertical or horizontal I wish vertical but....well

Hopefully hyundai to built over 1km HQ in gangnam. my dream

It is just my personally guess. Let wait and see what will happen.

Well, even if they get around that restriction, there's no reason to assume that they'll actually use all of the allowable area. It only gets more expensive the taller you go, and I don't think that Hyundai could possibly justify building so much without centralizing a huge part of their Korean operations in this one development.

I could easily see something ~500m, maybe one 300/200m, and a few shorter towers. Anything else would be distastefully excessive for Hyundai's needs.

I still think that pursuing such an extravagant course of action--first in the huge bid made for the land, then the building of a megatall and maybe more--is a terrible use of Hyundai's resources. They could probably have easily bought Lotus from Proton in Malaysia, revitalized that entire brand, and benefitted from their engineering expertise in producing some very upscale and adventurous vehicles.

All of that would've done so much to endear the brand to the people who have more control of consumers than they're aware of: car enthusiasts. Very, very few people outside of forums like these are going to care just how big a tower Hyundai builds, but everyone of the millions of people who buy a Hyundai every year would appreciate it if they drove that much more nicely.
