I beg to differ. 340 OTP's position on Randolph allows it to escape the isolation of LSE. Is it within proximity of the same type of amenities that 600 North Fairbanks enjoys? No. But it's hardly stranded on a desert island. As for LSE feeling "contrived," I don't think that's a judgment that can safely be made until all of the residents and townhomes are in place. We need to give this development some time to grow.

I really appreciate what they've done with LSE, but 'contrived' is spot on. There's some rapidly assembled beauty and it's an improvement over what was there before, but the above commentator was spot on.

Contrive?

Since contrive means: 1) to fabricate or make, 2) to devise or plan, or 3) to manage or effect. I believe that all structures are contrived.

LSE

I think 340 is a fantastic building, but I agree that I wouldn't want to live there. Having world class cuisine nearby is meaningless to me, how often are you going to restaurants like that? I didn't buy at 600 NF because I wanted to live near Tru and Les Nomades, I was more excited about Chipotle, Pandera and Jimmy John's! I personally want basic amenities nearby and 340 really is very isolated. I don't want to have to walk 4 blocks to get to a convenience store. I do think, though, that LSE is going to keep improving and has a ton of potential.

is that space below the glass collar at the top of the building going to get glass as well or remain open like that? it looks a little unfinished the way it is now, IMO.
And I rest my case! If people have to ask if it's done... that probably mean that it doesn't look it! This is the basis of my disdain for the way the detailed the top of this (otherwise) beautiful tower.

Hydrogen,
Great shot, as always!

I love pictures of buidings from seldom seen perspectives (like the one of 600 LSD you posted yesterday, also.)

By the way, anyone know what's going on at the top center two or three floors of this building? Looks like screening on some of the windows (to cover mechanical bits??) Never noticed it before, but you don't see pictures from this view often.

Roof

Does anyone know how the roof deck is going to work? There appears to be two exposed levels of it. Is that concrete block in the middle permanent or just part of construction?

If you look at the picture posted by "i am hydrogen" on 2/16 this is how it works:

the area that looks like a roof, with the "concrete block" in the middle is the "roof" of the indoor portion of the amenities floor. the open area that wraps around it is the roof-deck -- it wraps from east to south.

i'm equally curious as to what those metal screens are the top 2 floors in the center of the bldg -- anyone know?

Roof

newtochicago,
What I'm wondering is if both roof surfaces will be accessible or if there will only be the narrow area around the south and east sides that is open air. As for the screens, all I know is that they are below and around the indoor lap pool on the top level, so perhaps they are related to that somehow.

I would wager that only the thin sliver around the edge will be accessible to homeowners. It doesn't appear that the parapet comes up high enough around the rest of the roof to serve as a proper railing.

Roof

I agree Geoff. They have advertised that this building will have a "green roof" so maybe that top part will have trees? If They put trees on the narrow part there wouldn't be much room for anything else!

23 March. Beautiful fit & finish, just first rate all 'round:

Slightly metallic-looking garage shades

Nicely articulated corner

Crown

That most excellent North face

From the South

Guess this is starting to grow on me. I'm liking the top (at least from this angle.)
