I went to the sales center yesterday and I was told that a cerimonial groundbreaking will be February 28. THe sales agent said that sales were around the 50% mark (this seems to be the number all sales agents give). I am anticipating the construction of this one.

Anticipating the construction happening soon? Or just plain expecting to eventually happen? Good news either way.

It's always good to hear that construction is beginning on a tower that is well-designed.

Let's hope for these as well:

The Legacy
535 N. Fairbanks (or whatever the **** the address is)
Vetro
Library Tower (boring architecture but DAMN that block needs to be developed!)
FS--obviously
Studio Gang
300 N LaSalle

The ones mentioned above MUST all be built or my heart will be broken

I hope the Staybridge suites is constructed. To me that is innovative as hell.

600 North Fairbanks (451 ft)

I looked around the forum but I couldn't find a thread about this project, so I'm starting a new one.

I was wondering if anyone has any new updates about this condo tower? Are they going to start anytime soon? How is the pre-sale going?

Maybe next weekend I'll stop by their sales office, but in the meantime I'm curious if anyone knows anything the timeframe for construction.

The developer has a website: http://www.600northfairbanks.com/

Some pics from the site:

Yeah, we need to be better at not creating duplicate threads. Basically every tower either has its own individual thread or isn't important enough to warrant one and is probably stuck in a neighborhood or "other" thread.

I must be going blind or something. In all honesty, I propably spent close to an hour browsing the chicago development thread and didn't notice it.

Given that there is a developer website it seemed to me that it is a go project and thus I was quite surprised to see that there is no thread about it.

Sorry for the confusion and cheers to one more construction soon to be underway .

Is there a way to delete this thread? Perhaps mods have the magic power to make this disappear.

As of Monday of this week the parking lot has been fenced off and a crane is now on the site along with a backhoe which was active throughout this week...but didn't really hear anything about an official groundbreaking...kind of odd.

Groundbreaking

The building did have an event for the "groundbreaking" for buyers and local real estate agents. The office states that 68% of the units are already sold, which is a great number given that the building has been marketed less than 6 months. They are also combining some of the one bedroom units to create larger floorplans. I think this bodes well for the building since many of the large floorplans are already sold.

$93M Loan Puts 227 More Streeterville Condos in Works
By Mark Ruda
Last updated: April 12, 2006 08:16am

(To read more on the debt and equity markets, click here.)

CHICAGO-Urban R2 Development and Schatz Inc. have landed a $93-million construction mortgage from Fremont Investment & Loan, which will allow them to build a 227-unit condominium building at 600 N. Fairbanks Ct. Architect Helmut Jahn returns to Chicago after a three-year absence to design his first condominium building here, a 41-story concrete, steel and glass structure.

Fremont Investment & Loan vice president David Sharp suggests Jahn’s involvement will play a role in the project’s success, as well as helping underwrite it in a Streeterville area with an abundance of units hitting the market as well as drawing boards. In addition to being three blocks west of Navy Pier, it also is a quarter-mile northwest of the site of the proposed Fordham Spire.

“It stands out from the crowd because of its architecturally significant design that is both visually and physically compelling,” Sharp says. “This contemporary, urban project will be hailed as one where art meets function.”

The condominiums, which will have floor-to-ceiling lake and city views, replaces a 87-year-old, 52,700-sf commercial building, acquired by the developers last year for $6.3 million, according to documents on file with the Cook County Recorder of Deeds office.

Did the Chicago Tribune do a story about this tower or was it just the Sun-Times?
