Love this sucker.

Why aren't they cladding the garage yet?

outstanding detailing...one of the best buildings of this current boom.

BUT

it does remind me an awful lot of Jahn's own Xerox building.

This tower is far superior to the Xerox Center if only for the lack of fuss on the facade.

The skin is obviously far superior because glass technology has been greatly advanced in the last 28 years since Xerox was constructed, but the concept of 600 Fairbanks and the way it addresses the corner is essentially the Xerox Building with hidden balconies.

I do keep asking myself though what is this tower going to look like after people move in and start furnishing it and applying their favourite type of window treatments? From the outside, all the uniformity would go away and it could look quite chaotic. Suffice it to say it definitely won't look like an office building.

Nice talking to you!

So, any tower that has a fillet on its accessible corner is, essentially, the same? Without taking formal architecture to the extreme, there are only so many "shapes" that a building's mass can take on. The resolution is all about the detailing, and this tower is far superior to Xerox in that respect. The base and crown of the two buildings also serve to differentiate them greatly.

RE: window treatments - I'm sure the condo association will have some fairly strict guidelines in place to regulate treatments and maintain the building's exterior aesthetic. Naturally, it's going to lose some of its simplicity just in the manner that any window treatments ruin an edifice as transparent as this one.

No, any tower in Chicago that Helmut Jahn has done recently with a fillet at the corner is going to look like any tower that Helmut Jahn did in Chicago 28 years ago with a fillet at the corner. It's a specific connection I'm pointing out and not negatively so. I just find it interesting is all.

I hope you're right about the conso association mandates or they better take a lot of photos before everyone moves in!!!!

Windo treatments

I am the proud owner of a two bedroom condo at 600 north fairbanks. There are built in window treatments that are mounted into the ceiling that come down and are a neutral beige color. The interior designers told me that 99% of the units selected to have them installed and that it was almost guaranteed to become a mandated standard once the condo association met. Should look great!

Someone had enquired about windows that could be opened and someone else had pointed out that there were some on the east of west faces. Here’s a picture with some of them open.

Garage

Hello,

I walk by the building every week. I am also an owner of a two bedroom (NW corner) in the building. I noticed on Sunday that they are installing brackets on the garage floors for the metal mesh sheeting that will be encasing the garage. I was shown a small piece of it at the sales center. They are on time for the building and said that the lower floors will be closing in Oct/Nov of this year. Thanks to all who have posted pictures of this building.

Garage

I was in the sales center the other day and they said that the garage will be the last thing done, even later than most of the interiors. I guess it's because a lot of the "guts" of the building is accessed there and they want to have all that done before they clad it. Overall, they are only a month behind schedule. I got some pics from the sales person taken from the roof, I'll post them later.
D

PS, I also have a NW view!

Garage

Hello DeaconBlue,

Thanks for the information. I was thinking they would begin installing the cladding when I saw the brackets appear.
I think that the NW view is a great choice. We will not be impacted by the proposed building across the street which looks like a mini-Mandarin Oriental Hotel design. Our tier was one of the first to sell out and it is good that we have one of the larger two bedrooms. I am sure that the smaller ones on the southwest corner are going to attempt to be flipped in the 600,000's.
I am intending on moving in and staying put for a long time.

You are all very lucky. I had the fortune of eating at P.J. Clarks last night, and just stood idle for a good twenty minutes staring at 600. It is simply breathtaking. Easily one of my favorite towers in Chicago.

Pics

Here are the SW, W and N pics from the 35th floor. I saw a NE view too but couldn't get a copy (you could see a lot more lake than I thought, which is good!). The SW view is jaw-dropping and will only get better with Trump. The concern, though, is that the new building next door and the rest of CityFront Plaza may block the view in the future. Enjoy,
D

I think they are done

It will be interesting to see how the top 4 floors look because they have a different balcony pattern.
