Alstom signs Rostov tram modernisation accord
Thursday, October 02, 2014

THE mayor of the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don Mr Mikhail Chernyshev has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alstom Russia to develop plans for the modernisation of the city's 112km standard-gauge tram network.

Under the agreement Alstom will draw up proposals for the introduction of modern low-floor LRVs and study the feasibility of catenary-free operation on parts of the network.

Rostov currently operates a fleet of 223 trams, many of which are life-expired. The city plans to introduce new low-floor vehicles in time for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Russia.

As part of its TramRus joint venture with Transmashholding Alstom has developed a 1520mm-gauge low-floor LRV for the Russian market, which is based on the company's successful Citadis product platform. A 25.5m-long three-section prototype vehicle (pictured) is currently undergoing passenger trials on Line 17 in Moscow.

Are there any plans for Metrotram (pre-metro, rapid tram) for Rostov, like in Volgograd? To build 2-4km of tram tunnel?

For an outstanding person it looks as if state-officials don´t care much about other cities than Moscow and St. Petersburg. I can´t imagine that one metro-line in Tscheljabinsk, Omsk or Rostov is less necessary than another extension of Moscow Metro. Same goes for Jekaterinenburg and other metros with still small systems.

Kind regards

I don't think those cities will finish all their metro extensions, when they finish current plans they will add more.

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.

Tram tracks upgrade on 14 Liniya St - from now on there's left-side tram ride on this section. This stupid upgrade was financed by the owner of nearby shopping mall:

From Metro Report

http://www.metro-report.com/news/new...v-na-donu.html

More City Star trams to be delivered to Rostov-na-Donu
31 Jul 2017

RUSSIA: PK Transportnye Systemy was the sole bidder for a contract to supply a further 13 trams to Rostov-na-Donu. Its offer of City Star vehicles is worth 426·4m roubles and the order will be financed by Rostov Oblast.

PK TS has already delivered 16 single-section low-floor City Star trams under a 524·8m rouble order placed last year. An order for a further tram was announced on July 3, with the 25m rouble cost this time financed by the city rather than the region
