South Forbes goes green

Friday, November 30, 2007
Today, the need for efficient land development has taken on even greater significance due to growing concerns over climate change which has increasingly affected many aspects of our lives. Although experts have formulated new practices in land development that accommodate population growth while preserving land and minimizing the dependency on cars, in the Philippines, sustainable development is still the road less traveled.

“South Forbes Golf City believes that building sustainable and thriving communities in harmony with the natural environment is about building better lives for people,” said Cathay Land president Jeffrey Ng.

The 2007 CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards programme, recognized the contributions of Cathay Land, Inc. through South Forbes Golf City – the country’s largest fully integrated, all-themed golf resort city at the forefront of the booming Metro Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay growth corridor — and named it as the Philippines’ first and only Best Golf Community Development.

New Urbanism governs the planning and design of South Forbes in order to achieve the benefits of compact, mixed-use, and pedestrian neighborhoods. This way, there is a discernible center where most residences are within 10 minutes walk away, there are a variety of dwelling types so that younger and older people, singles and families, the wealthy and underprivileged may find places to live, streets within the neighborhood form a connected network which disperses traffic by providing a variety of pedestrian and vehicular routes to any destination, and work and school are close enough so that most everyone can walk from their homes.

“This is reflected in South Forbes’ 5 Clusters of Excellence where the Residential Cluster forms a synergistic circle with the Education, Business, Wellness, and Leisure Clusters,” Ng explained. “New Urbanism, in our case, fosters a walkable, human-scaled urban environment, while offering a modern residential and commercial suburban development.”

Along the perimeter of the City Center, South Forbes’ commercial hub, are the themed residential neighborhoods for which South Forbes is renowned. Villages include the Mediterranean Villas, Châteaux de Paris, Miami, Bali Mansions, Tokyo Mansions, and Phuket Mansions and Sentosa Heights. Condominiums include the five-building Golf View Terraces and the twin-tower Scandia Suites.

“Walking will become the main mode of transportation to lessen dependence on automobiles,” shared Ng. “Landscaped promenades to and from every location are provided to make this basic and pollution-free activity most enjoyable.”

To drivensteven: You are destroying the beautiful images of South Forbes city. I bought a property here and I don't want the beauty be degraded by the watermarks on every picture you posted. These images are the property of South Forbes City. I am glad you were banned from posting.

I went to see this project a few months back and was surprised at the size and quality of the development (big and well made). However, I hesitated to make an investment because I had my own issues. The name was too close to Forbes Park. Hard to explain to your friends how you live in South Forbes, then you have to add that its not the Forbes in Makati. If they named it something else, maybe it would have been a different story.

I did like the golf view terraces and the model units of their asian inspired houses were quite nice. However with the many different village themes I felt too much of a good thing didnt necessarily make it better, I got confused.

I asked about the golf shares, specifically how the ownership went. I was told ownership remains with the developer and the buyers had rights? to play for some 20+ odd years if I remember correctly. I probably would have bought shares if they sold those coz the golf course has some of the most breathtaking views. It is a precision course that is not walkable and the fairways are narrow but with lush tropical greenery that you wish would remain virgin-like when the place is fully developed.

Who knows maybe one day I will get over my issues.

I got one here, currently building a house there at bali mansions. at first, issues that are hounding you were the same thing that bothered me. but what the heck, I like the place, can see laguna de bay, its cool there and thank god the developer really delivers and same here, really like the golf course although just starting to play. it would be a nice investment for you too, its near everything...and the place is not placed smacked in the main road (the one going to tagaytay), its hidden like westgrove.

If you want your works be appreciated, then remove the watermarks on the pictures you posted for viewers to appreciate them. How can someone appreciate an art of work if there are marks on the pictures that prevented seing the details you produced.

If watermarks are allowed on the pictures published here, explain to the viewers what was the reason why you were banned? There must be a reason.
I bet you can't publish pictures on this thread anymore. I go this site to get a latest update on the progress of South Forbes City development. Soon my family will be spending some of our time here when we visit the Philippines. I don't intend to live here permanently. I bought a property here because I saw the beauty of this place when the sales people came to the US. They had a nice video presentation. The pictures published here with watermarks will definitely have an effect in selling the properties because future owners who come to this site are searching for inputs and pictures on the latest development.

I was banned because of multiple posting on several threads...and not on the watermarks per se. By the way, I also did the video presentation of SFGC.

The reason why i put watermarks on my 3D rendition because I saw my work from another person who is claiming that he did the latter.

yeah this was supposed to be for shanghai/beijing mansions but the name was scuttled and replaced with phuket mansions, they still retained the design of the clubhouse, which i think is not, imo thai in design/architecture.

South Forbes opens 18-hole golf course
July 04, 2008

In what appears to be the fastest constructed golf course in the Philippines, South Forbes Golf City, the largest fully-integrated and all themed golf resort city at the forefront of the Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay corridor, will be opening its world-class 18-hole golf course on July 5, 2008.

“We are proud to announce the much-awaited opening of the entire 18-hole golf course and the driving range facility,” said Jeffrey Ng, Cathay Land president. “This major milestone for 2008 fortifies South Forbes’ identity as a producer of “firsts” in the industry.”

First Philippine IMG-affiliate. The 18-hole precision golf course was designed by Asia’s foremost golf course designer, the International Management Group (IMG). In keeping with the principles of environmental sustainability, IMG designed the whole course to take advantage of the site’s mountainous terrain and lush forests, with minimized earth movement, resulting in breathtaking views from any point in the course, especially the peaks.

Precision courses reward players for accuracy and not so much for long distance game.

South Forbes boom city
July 11, 2008 12:00 AM

The world has now taken notice of the phenomenon of “boomburbs”, a term coined by Robert Lang and Jennifer LeFurgy to mean suburban communities in the United States that have grown rapidly and consistently. Today, boomburbs are home to extremely diverse populations, major employment centers, and regional entertainment venues, with its cities having its own priorities for economic development and community character so families and individuals alike are offered many options as they locate there.

“As much as having the fastest growth prospects in the entire country is concerned, the Metro Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay corridor, much like its American counterparts, has itself become a “baby boomburb”, projected to be the next best place to explore and experience the dynamics that are shaping successful 21st century metropolitan areas,” shared Jeffrey Ng, Cathay Land president.

Dream City. And at the forefront of this region of change and vitality is South Forbes Golf City, the country’s largest fully-integrated and all-themed golf resort city, acclaimed Best Golf Community Development by the 2007 CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards programme.

“We’re building a perfectly-located city with various educational, lifestyle, work, and play options for the whole family,” Ng said. “Together, our various themed subdivisions fulfill our vision of ‘The Whole World in One City’ concept.”

Stopping the Sprawl. Metro Manila was built on an expansionist real estate philosophy which created an automobile-based culture that generated traffic congestion and an immensely-polluted environment. South Forbes does not subscribe to this kind of unbridled development.

Setting the stage to a sustainable future, the master planned community of South Forbes incorporated the compact, pedestrian-friendly town center type of development, with its City Center — the focus of the community — surrounded by the Residential Cluster. This is called New Urbanism. In fact, all other South Forbes Clusters — Education, Wellness, Business, and Leisure — are all accessible within a few minutes of pleasant walk from home through landscaped promenades.

Take your Pick. Boomburbs rely on the wide availability of housing options. South Forbes has responded with internationally-themed enclaves from affordable sizes to single-family estate homes: the charming Mediterranean Villas, regal Châteaux de Paris, chic Miami, tropical Bali Mansions, tranquil Tokyo Mansions, resort-inspired Phuket Mansions, and daring Sentosa Heights.

Medium-rise condominiums with ground-level commercial space topped with four storeys of residential spaces like Scandia Suites create critical mass for retailers. And in keeping with the golf theme, the Golf View Terraces front the fairways of the golf course where its residents will enjoy the high of sweeping vistas and a cool breeze.

Stretch those Legs. The City Center, the South Boulevard Commercial Strip and Rodeo Drive are a mixed-use lifestyle zone that combines an array of architectural styles and detailing that provide character to the city while respecting human scale.

New urbanism in South Forbes
August 29, 2008

South Forbes Golf City, the country’s largest fully-integrated, and all-themed golf resort city at the forefront of the Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay growth corridor, adjudged Best Golf Community Development by the 2007 CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards programme, has poised itself into becoming a city meant for people who are after a green way of life.

“The recognition given us by the international community shows that South Forbes upholds the globally-accepted principles of an environmentally-sensitive development through proper planning and design,” said Jeffrey Ng, Cathay Land president.

Sustainable Design. South Forbes subscribes to the doctrines of New Urbanism where, because of the creation of walkable districts, there is a reduction in the dependency of automobiles and a conscious preservation of critical lands, and is now becoming a safe, livable, healthy community as intended.

“For people to take to walking, they must find it enjoyable, which is why we spared no expense into providing wider, landscaped pedestrian routes of all kinds all over,” said Ng. “In the very near future, our parent residents will walk their children to school like our very own Learning Links Academy of Sta. Rosa and South Forbes City Colleges before heading for work at the Cyberpark nearby.”

South Forbes is structured into complete, well-connected, mixed-use neighborhoods allowing residents to live, work, play, shop, and learn within a walking or transit distance.

Cool Communities. Châteaux de Paris, for one, is one enclave where pedestrian and vehicular routes were planned around parks and gardens. These gardens, which also evoke the grandeur of the French capital, are interconnected by landscaped paths so that residents can walk from their own homes to any of the six themed gardens they choose within a matter of minutes.

South Forbes Golf City's sleek Scandia Suites
September 12, 2008 12:00 AM

A lot of people find the ownership of a condominium unit to be one of the more intelligent property purchases. They make great affordable “first homes” as well as make great “last homes” if one is downsizing from a large family house to a smaller residence. If one would rather spend his free time doing something else besides moving the lawn, painting the outside of your home, or waiting for the ‘pool guys’ to show up, then a condo might just be the thing for you.

Super Site. Scandia Suites is the second condominium project in South Forbes Golf City, the country’s largest fully-integrated, self-sustaining and all-themed golf resort city at the heart of the Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay corridor and the first in the Philippines to have been honored Best Golf Community Development by the 2007 CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards programme.

“The Residential Cluster of South Forbes, of which the twin-tower Scandia Suites is an integral part, is not only diverse in housing types but also in character,” said Jeffrey Ng, Cathay Land president. “This condo aims to reach out to executives working in the business and technology parks in the immediate vicinity as well as those future executives of South Forbes’ own Cyberpark.”

Smart Design. Scandia Suites is a take-off on Scandinavian modernism, conveying the sleekness and energy of modern technology — simple, uncomplicated, efficient, innovative. This unique style celebrates and reflects the desire to live in functional comfort and unpretentious style so much in demand today — new approach to contemporary living for the fast-paced professional.

Stylish Suites. With sensible space management and well-thought through layouts, each suite has become the ultimate pad for people who prefer a residence that is high in style but low in upkeep. There are four unit types to choose from: studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. The option for a fully-furnished unit will come with select furniture, fixtures, and appliances with brands known for their style, sophistication, durability and quality.

Sweet Spots. The ground level is dedicated to the immediate needs of its residents without leaving the Scandia compound. A double shot of espresso from the Café can kick-start your day then head off to shopping for essentials like food, toiletries or magazines at the grocery to complete a shopping list. Mom can wait for her laundry to finish at the Laundromat while getting a perm at the salon next door. It is total convenience without having to drive in heavy traffic or to search for parking.

Residents, both grown-ups and kids, can have so much fun with the facilities and amenities designed just for them. A quick dip at the landscaped pool is perfect on a hot summer’s day. Refreshments are served at the al fresco café by the pool deck. Working parents can satisfy a cardio regimen around the jogging path before heading for the office and children can play with their neighbors at the gazebo or run around the playground after school.

And school is not that far away. Just beside is the Learning Links Academy of Sta. Rosa that offers quality pre-school to secondary education, including a day care center where parents can entrust their toddlers to trained professionals. A walk up South Boulevard will lead to the South Forbes City Colleges for global tertiary education.

Shopping Strips. Also few minutes’ walk along South Boulevard is the City Center, the commercial hub of South Forbes, where a village of multi-themed entertainment, dining, and retail shops are located around a lagoon and the Driving Range facility. Along its perimeter are the South Boulevard Commercial Strip and Rodeo Drive for specialty stores, offices and even clinics.

Strokes, Swings, Sights. As with every other project in South Forbes, every Scandia Suites resident is entitled to free golf membership to the world-class, 18-hole South Forbes Golf and Leisure Club at no activation cost.

Miami in South Forbes
September 19, 2008

In a recent online survey conducted by Travel & Leisure entitled “America’s Favorite Cities”, the place voted with the most attractive people is none other than Miami, Florida, and rightfully so with its mixed ethnicity, stylishness, and passion for an active lifestyle.

And quite similarly, such is the vision of South Forbes Golf City, the largest fully-integrated and all-themed golf resort city at the forefront of the Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay corridor, for its newest enclave in its internationally-themed Residential Cluster, a highlight feature recognized by the 2007 CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards programme, which gave it the highly-coveted honor of being called Best Golf Community Development — the first and only in the Philippines.

“Miami will be a tropical hot spot for the hip and famous in a captivating paradise setting of sun and palms — just like living an ongoing vacation,” said Cathay Land president Jeffrey Ng. “Miami is also perfect in the Philippines in that we share similar climate and an environment of cultural diversity.”

See. Inspired by the Miami Beach Architectural District, also called the Art Deco District containing the largest concentration of 1920s and 1930s resort architecture in the United States, four model homes capture the extraordinary charm of this district yet each with its own functional appeal: the Daytona for the jetsetter businessman, the Kissimmee for those who lavish in the comfort of big spaces, the Sarasota for big families with their own personal needs, and the Pensacola suited for the retirement class.

Do. A village of sophisticated homes deserves an equally classy clubhouse where residents are elevated to a celebrity status, especially those who adore soaking in the sun and enjoy a nightlife that never sleeps. Swimmers and sunbathers are welcome to lounge on sunning beds all around the beach-inspired free-form pool. On special weekends, one can grab a bite at the clubhouse outdoor café for delectable barbecues with family and friends — a popular American tradition.

What tropical setting wouldn’t be complete without rows of tall palms that spire up to the sky and sway with the gentle breeze like well-wishers welcoming everyone arriving? Two feature parks inside Miami are dedicated to providing picturesque and stimulating parks and recreational facilities, whether one is a biker, stroller, passer-by. Flamingo Park will even have flamingo sculptures around a fountain.

South Forbes enlightenment
September 26, 2008

South Forbes Golf City, the largest fully-integrated, self-sustaining, and all-themed golf resort city in the heart of the Metro Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay corridor and recipient of the 2007 CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards programme, for Best Golf Community Development, is renowned for creative themed residential developments. And in its newest Balinese-themed enclave, Nirwana Bali, it has combined the ingredients of a tropical resort lifestyle into a home that ingeniously merges the modern and traditional styles intended for a young family — Sanur.

Sanur, which literally means the passion to visit a certain place, was once the setting of grand villas of heirs and heiresses, and has since attracted an international elite that made it a prominent luxury resort area in the Far East.

A Whole New World. From the exterior alone, the warm wood tones and Balinese decorative elements that contrast beautifully with the clean, spare walls and sharp lines of the whole house immediately reveals the perfection of a luxury hideaway.

Upon entering, the immaculate, almost monastic, living room is striking in its calm simplicity. The whole space pays particular attention to surfaces and textures with the ivory sandstone wall where an oil painting hangs, a soft and cozy sectional sofa with Balinese accent throw pillows for a very relaxed ambience, and an abaca rug that breaks up the space and lends warmth to the stone flooring. Full-length sliding doors invite the outside landscaping in — part of the Balinese tropical living experience.

A wooden louver screen divides the living area from the kitchen and dining area yet still allows for ample light and good ventilation. A low glass-top bar allows for a delineation of space as well as a countertop for working or eating. The modern glass dining table with steel base complements the traditional wooden chairs for an uncluttered appearance. Printed drop lighting adds an interesting Asian touch.

Spic and Spa. The master’s bedroom on the second level features contemporary pieces of furniture and accessories with traditional Indonesian wooden panels. The platform bed is framed by an upholstered wall panel in vibrant lemon yellow and chic, soft floral patterns.

A floor-to-ceiling wooden-framed picture window is lined with built-in wooden shelving to add life and art to the scenery beyond. Luxurious drapery filters the glare of the bright sun.

A walk-in closet transitions between the bedroom and the toilet and bath. Light-colored stone tile flooring and glass partitions add to the bright and airy feeling while the chaise lounge by the large window allows one to view clothes in total ease.
