Can you please not start a thread by showing only pictures! It would be nice to get some introduction. I bet that 90 % of the Forumers even never heard about the city of Shiraz.

Quote from UrbanRail.net
Quote:
Shiraz has some 1.3 million inhabitants and lies in the southwest of Iran, about 500 km south of Tehran. It is the capital of the Fars province.

Line 1 of the Shiraz Metro will be 22.4 km long and will connect Gol-e-Sorkh Square to Ehsan Square. There will be 20 underground stations and one station above ground (Chamran Bridge).

The southern 15 km two separate tunnels with a diameter of 7 m are being constructed, the rest is being built as a double-track cut-and-cover tunnel. Between Chamran Bridge and Mirza Koochak Khan Sq., the line is at grade. Stations in shallow sections have side platforms, and deep-level stations have an island platform.

Quote:
The 8.5 km Line 2 will intersect with Line 1 at Emam Hossein Sq. and run to Mian Rood & Aadel Abaad via Enghelab Street and Basij Square. There will be two separate 7 m diameter tube tunnels at a depth of 15 m. Among the 10 stations planned there will be two surface stations.

Line 3 will be 16 km long and run from Mirza Koochak Khan Sq. on Line 1 to Sadra New Town. The first 4 km section will be in a shallow tunnel, and the rest at grade. There will be four underground and four surface stations. At the terminus it will provide transfer to the mainline railway at Golestan Town.

Shiraz opens first metro line
Tuesday, October 14, 2014

PUBLIC services began on October 11 on the first phase of the metro network in the Iranian city of Shiraz

The initial section of Line 1 links Ehsan Square with Namazi in the city centre and has eight stations, although two of these have not yet been completed. In the second phase, the line will be extended south to Shahid Dastgheyb. The total length of both phases will be 22.5km.

The train fleet for Line 1 has been supplied by CNR, China.

Construction is also underway on the initial 11km phase of Line 2 from Shokufe to Azadi, which will include an interchange with Line 1 at Emam Hossein Square. A second phase is planned, which will extend the line 4km east to Saadi.

The rollings stocks has the partial similarity with newly opened Jaipur Metro.

Congratulation Shiraz. It opened 3rd metro system in Iran after Tehran & Mashhad.

Damn you, I was hoping for an update If sanctions are lifted, there will hopefully be more life on the Iranian section of infrastructure projects.
