Wow, that's fabulous news. In the summer I pass by that site twice/week and I was getting tired waiting for it to break ground. It will be the first significant tower between the downtown and the Distillery District. I'm eager to see what impact it will have.

That pond is actually part of a water filtration system so it's doing double duty.

It's not just beautiful, but serving a useful function:

Linking beauty and functionality, Sherbourne Common is the first park in Canada to incorporate a neighbourhood-wide storm-water management system into its design. The water treatment facility is unassumingly housed in the basement of the park’s pavilion and cleans collected storm and lake water with ultraviolet light. (In the future, as the neighbourhood is built-out, it will treat storm-water.) Treated water travels underground to the north side of the park where it is released through three nine-metre-high art sculptures called Light Showers designed by artist Jill Anholt. The water then follows an urban channel out to Lake Ontario.

Designed by renowned landscape architects Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg with The Planning Partnership, the 1.47 hectare park also features a playground, a splash pad that doubles as a skating rink in the winter, and a striking zinc-clad pavilion that provides public amenities.

Thanks for the info! I hope One Yonge's future water fountain park employs the same system. It reminds me of UBC's stormwater management infrastructure:

Oh wow. I walked down that bit of UBC but had no idea that it was part of a storm water filtration system. There's also a youtube video on Sherbourne Common:

Apparently, the utility poles will be buried underground once the QQE redevelopment commences. That really needs to happen: Large roads + utility poles and lines = not pretty.
