NEW YORK | 143 E 60th St | ~200m | 650ft | Pro

As set forth in the following article from the 1st of Nov., 2014 edition of the NYT, the developers of 252 E 57th plan a new "tall" tower on E 60th, just east of Lex. I hope that they acquire the small building on Lex too.

I would not be surprised if this exceeds 250m.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/11/02...town-east.html

This is the site, which presently does not include the building on the far left, which is on Lex.

http://vanishingnewyork.blogspot.com...y-inn.html?m=1

Here's the relevant portion of the above-posted NYT article:

".....On East 60th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues, World Wide plans to build a residential development across from Bloomingdale’s. “That will also be a tall tower,” said Ms. Hodgson, adding that it would “be a similar type of development” to the East 57th Street project. To make way for the tower, World Wide has been steadily assembling low-rise buildings on the block, including the building that houses the Subway Inn, a beloved dive bar that has been in its location for 77 years. But World Wide did not renew the bar’s lease and on Dec. 2, the storied tavern is scheduled to close and later move to a new location on Second Avenue and 60th street, two blocks away.

“This whole block is changing left and right,” said Steven Salinas, whose father, Arsemio, owns the Subway Inn. “Everybody wants to make a lot of money and the city’s letting them do that, and they don’t care too much about the mom-and-pop places...."

Is there a possibility for maintaining retail at street level?

I doubt it, unless the acquire the corner building on Lex. Since it's on a side street, the retail is garbage (e.g., a dive bar, a crappy pizza place, and a Subway).

This tower will have an unimpeded view of the Park.

Exciting & a great spot for a tall residential tower. Seems like they plan to have this just as tall as their 252 East 57th street tower.

Hopefully this will be a supertall. They have more than 300k square feet, because Bloomingdales sold the air rights to their office space just to the east.

And I believe Worldwide Group has acquired or is acquiring the Lexington Ave. frontage. I assume there will be a significant retail element on Lexington, and then a tall, slim tower on 60th Street.

WI,

Do you have any info re: the acquisition of the building on Lex.? It's such a tiny footprint that it would be "landlocked" and useless for further development if WW builds its tower to the east. Thus, the owners could maximize their value by selling now.

I hope that WW acquires it so that the new tower could be on Lex.

they are. I use to live near that area and remember wishing for those buildings to be torn down and make way for a new tower. My wish is coming true.

Btw, I did not know that big white Bldng on the right was part of the assemblage. That's great and hopefully that Lex corner building goes too. Hopefully WWG makes an offer 767 Lex can't refuse. Would be a great corner for a Starbucks!!! Lol

I walked by today. It would really stink if WW doesn't acquire the eyesore on Lex.
