Chicago needs a new signature tower to give the city new life. I like the current towers but they are really getting old.

The new tower is currently under construction -- supertall Vista Tower. A potential icon. There will be no other tower like it once it is built.

The iconic skyscrapers in Chicago are timeless.... that said, I partially agree with you and your post. A new signature skyscraper like Vista Tower was long overdue.... but to Chicago's credit, there are other significant/skyline reshaping towers under construction -- the Vinoly Tower - 887 ft and strategically located to lengthen the skyline.... One Bennett Park - 800 ft plus .... Wolf Point (with a potential supertall) plus a number of significant proposals and buildings currently under construction that will continue to add height and beef to the skyline.

So yes, long overdue, but also yes, it is happening. None quite the size of a megatall yet but supertall and tall towers that will invigorate and reshape the skyline nonetheless.

But the Gateway Tower would be so majestic, so beautiful with its architectural design of high sophistication and art and so strategically placed that it would not fail to give a new visual and renovation impact to the city skyline. It would represent alone what the entire La Défense represents to Paris in terms of renovation.

If it were to be built now, with the magnificent proposition of also being an observation tower and next to an amusement park and next to the Chicago River with its boats full of tourists, I would say that it will appear that Chicago is already in the 22nd century.

So this is still quiet right? Not even some whispers in the wind regarding the future of this sight?

Is there hope of it being built?

10 times better than the Spire. Too bad it will never be built, unless the "2000 foot rule" really doesn't exist.

Wow!! So much future! What upgrade it will be! I don't remember another example of only one building making so huge difference for an entire city and that can give to Chicago the title of most beautiful skyline in the world.

I counted 132 floors + architectural top. The 700 meters building projects here are in the 160-story strip like the megatall of the Future City Project in Shenzhen. Zhongnan Center of Suzhou reaches 729 meters with 137 floors, according to its designers. If it's 700 meters high and was built now, it could be the 2nd, 3rd or 4th tallest building in the world considering the two projects under construction here in the main session plus the BK.

It is quite unusual. But it cannot become iconic, like some people here tend to think.

What's the name of your galaxy, gravitationally bound system, and planet? Because here in the Milky Way, in the Solar System, planet Earth, everything tall becomes iconic.

No, Spire was much better.

The design is very cool and I wish I could like it. But the bottom half looks awkward to me. I guess its the way the tower leans above the bottom third portion above where the supports join with the tower. I suppose the bottom portion leans the other way as well. It kind of looks like it got kicked in the stomach.

When I've read this I was thinking if I should cry, or laugh, I decided to laugh hysterically instead. Absolutely hilarious.

Towers aren't infrastructure. They're structure.
