Great! I've worked on preconstruction for some of those unbuilt structures, and several that aren't on there - going back to the 80s. When you have a city that exists out of necessity, reason and practicality play a big part in decision making. On the other hand, if "because we can" is all that matters, places like Dubai end up looking like your renderings.

Still glad most of those massive towers didn't happen. Most of them are way too tall above their surroundings and would have ruined the cityscape (Chicago WTC in particular). The Chicago Spire on the other hand really would've been great IMO, still bummed it got cancelled.
