A proposed technical amendment to Residential-Business Planned Development No.
368 for a site located at approximately 400 North Lake Shore Drive submitted by Mayor
Rahm Emanuel. This is a technical amendment to Statement No. 21 of the Planned
Development Statements, extending the expiration date of the Planned Development as
it relates to Subparcel E.3 (the Chicago Spire) to 2018. This is being proposed in order
to assure that the public benefits previously committed for development of the site
remain in place and to assure ample time for public and community input on any revised
development plans for the site.

Hopefully we'll hear some news this year, I was worried that this development would take forever.

I've heard Related Midwest is pretty crappy compared to Related NY and most people seem to think that they won't really pull through with anything as great as they claim. I'm not going to get my hopes up too high for this site because I think anything under 400 meters is a waste here.

We'll see

It's an extension of the planned development so that Related can go through revisions.

Yes Jay Related is not popular in Chicago and the fact that 500 n Lake Shore drive exists makes me nervous.

500 n lakeshore isn't terrible, but more just boring. The twin tower plan Related originally released for the site didn't look half bad but more height would be nice.

Like I said, I'm not getting my hopes up for this site. I think Wolf point actually has the best chance of harboring a really cool supertall, maybe Wanda Vista too.

No design but they already have a project page, also it's under the mixed-use/destination category.....

400 N. Lake Shore Drive is a 2.2 acre site in Chicago situated on the north side of the Chicago River at Lake Michigan offering a spectacular vantage point to the city and its waterways. One of the largest and most iconic parcels of land in the country, this site represents an opportunity for Related to create the next great Chicago development. The former site of the Chicago Spire project, 400 North Lake Shore Drive was acquired by Related Midwest in November of 2014. The project is currently in the planning stages

If I remember correctly, the original developer of the Chicago Spire committed to spending millions of dollars to finish the city's DuSable Park - the adjoining parcel just to the east of the site, on the other side LSD - as part of the project. Obviously this was to both party's benefit, since the unimproved parkland is an eyesore for potential condo buyers and the city really has no money in the near future to complete the park itself.

My guess is that Emmanuel simply wants to hold Related to the former developer's promise to finish the park in exchange for permission to build.

I know, I feel like I shouldn't have high hopes for this project even though we deserve it after all the major Chicago letdowns.

I hope it's at least tall (like 400+ meters even though I'm probably dreaming).

On the bright side Related Midwest is/was behind some okay buildings (including 451 East Grand).

Wow, I'm not sure how authentic that is, or if he'll accept the commission, but I'm pumped to know that's a possibility. This is huge!

I don't think there's a city in the US that would ever enforce that sort of crazy logic.
