CHICAGO | Gateway Tower | 610m | ~ 136 fl | Pro

This design is better then the Calatrava one. This design is shaped by the city around it, and does not pretend to be a solitary icon. Therefore it could only be built in Chicago! It allmost looks like the Dutch way of design, the 'form follows function and fun' way.

When I look at that info-graphic above, I realize even more how sleek is the design for the new tower.

I actually like this design better than the Spire, which I wasn't very fond of.

It will be a nice addition to the skyline (if it gets built).

At first I didn't like this design at all, but I'm starting to like it more and more each time I look at it. Still think the Spire would have been nicer than this. This design isn't all that bad though!

Same here. The more i get use to it the more i like it. Especially the fact that this design hamonizes more with the rest of Chicagos skyscraper architecture. Calatrava's tower was awesome but quiete alone with its twisting design, this one works better.

That said, Chicago's fundamentals and the current position of the US in the economic cycle means that this probably won't get off the ground. I can't see how it would get funded since there just isn't the demand there.
While I agree that this probably won't get off the ground, there's not much point in factoring cycles into it. These things take so long to build out that it's really difficult to predict the market by the time they're ready for occupancy.

YES!

Isn't this where the old "Fordham Spiral" was supposed to be built? They even dug the foundations before the Great Recession sat in. I hope it is built. President Trump could do it and stamp his name on a second Chicago supertall ;-)

I don't like the tripod legs, they're too stiff and don't go with the organic design thingy that this building is going for. Besides that, I really dig the design.

Absurd pipe dream of a concept. They would never, ever get air rights over Lake Shore Drive. And they do realize the plot of land to the east is City-owned - earmarked as the future DuSable Park - don't they?

I don't know Chicagos urban development plans. But why releases Gensler this concept when chances are like you said almost zero for it?

It was a competition within the Gensler firm, there is chance that a developer could pick up the design but that chance is almost zero.

I don't get this, if they can fund this, then why not reinstate the 'Spire' design, which all must agree is a much better all round design and created a classic form.

This new tower design just looks a bit odd, what are the kinked tower and giant struts all about?

The leg is not working as a design. Looks like the tower needs extra support to fall not over. Hope they come up with something different.

Think in today's world a tower should represent strength and stability.
