AeroMéxico Connect challenges and conquers influenza, grows 51% in June

Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 16:56hs Source: Terra Mexico

www.co.invertia.com

MEXICO, July. 29.- AeroMéxico Connect, one of the airlines controlled by Group AeroMéxico, defeated in June from this year to the consequences of the virus of the influenza with an increment of 51% in the number of passengers transported in national flights and with it became the greater business air by passengers transported in the country.
The past month of June AeroMéxico Connect transported to little less than 368.000 travelers, 51% more with respect to the 243.600 of the sixth month of 2008 and with it its participation in the national flights was of 18.4%, eight percentage points more with respect to the same period of last year.
Executives of AeroMéxico were not immediately available to comment on the matter.
Some experts commented that the explosive growth registered by Connect is turned out of it restructures that experiences the group where Aeroméxico transfered passengers to the regional airline, nevertheless the number of the General Direction of Civil Aeronatics (a dependence of the Office of the secretary of Communications and Transportations, SCT) they show the contrary thing.
Only in June, AeroMéxico Connect transported to almost 367.932 passengers, that is to say 124.300 more regarding June of 2008, while AeroMéxico lost 100.100 travelers upon mobilizing 304.377 individuals.
The numbers that reached AM Connect in June are validated with them reported for all the second quarter of the year.
In the middle of the consequences that abandonment the sanitary warning in the national tourism by the bud (in the last week of April) of the virus of influenza, the total flow of travelers in national flights diminished 14,7% in June and accumulated a drop of 20,7% in the second quarter.
Of the five large airlines (that concentrate the 72% of the national flights) AeroMéxico, Volaris and Interjet registered contraction in the number of passengers transported. Nevertheless, of them only AeroMéxico lost participation of market.
Click of Mexican increment 21% the number of passengers and with it was located like the third greater airline in the country with a participation of 15.2%. With that position superseded to Volaris and Interjet.
In the meantime, it gotten into debt and emproblemada airline Aviacsa that were suspended by three days its operations by the federal government in June, lost 45% of its passage and with it 3,3 percentage points of participation of market, upon passing from 9,2% to 6.0%.
An important point to emphasize is that the registered contraction in by Aviacsa in June was derived from three days of suspension. There it will be that to wait for to see if survives with the new suspension that decreed the SCT since the past of 6 of July, that is to say until today accumulates 24 days without being able to fly.

You see... The merging thing with MX proved to be, as of now, only rumors...

There is really nothing on the subject... It appears to have been only distractions...

Good to hear that a possible merger has become a simple rumor. I am actually waiting for AM to buy MX Operations and take over it's current routes and some personnel. So AM will be "The One & Only Flagship Carrier" as it should had been intended from the start...

Now, getting back to your comment about the merger. How certain are you of this been a rumor, so you're source is?

Source? Is rather evident, no need for source. Both airlines eventually denied any further formal process of merging. The Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transports simply stepped out of the concurrent circle, in an game of nothing but only speculative statements, some of which you even recorded here.

Nonetheless, MX has recognized in hands of its owner, the Posadas Group, its decrease, as happened with AM too, due to major factors, particularly the flu crisis. However, many in Mexico thought this was the green light for the merge, which turn out to be negative.

^ To some degree I am with you on most of what you mentioned above^. But we can see clearly that MX is or will struggle financially in the months to come if air travel in Mexico doesn't pick up pace. So I envision AM buying them off and since they are the closest competition, becoming a mega brand worldwide with sufficient wide bodies. Which is what the country is missing so foreign carriers would not take a bigger piece of the pie. Enough with the European Code-SHares we need to have our metal in all important Airports in Europe, Asia and heck why not Africa/Middle East, eh?

That's a common desire in mexican aviation forums... To gather MX & AM's widebodies, and conquer over so many destinations that are forgotten... Lisbon, Rome, Montevideo, Rio, Cairo, Milan, Berlin, Munich, Moscow...

As I told u many posts before, it would be quite a fleet... By AM, 4 777's, 6 767's i belive, by MX 4 767's i believe, and 2 A330's...

What forum are you referring to? And yes, more destinations would be a magnificant strategy.

Still not enough widebodies to cover all destinations. Besides MX brand needs to swallow up already.

On some Mexican airport threads, the same Mex. City airport thread, and some others in MXScrapers

However, the destinations topic is quite an issue... For exaple, the MEX-FCO route has never been successful... Alitalia used to operate it, about a decade ago or more, but it failed... AM, as you know, also has attempted with the route, but always failing...

Nice pix you had thereabout T1. So what about the billboard in T2 now any pix?

I also notice that MEX-FCO route always goes down the drain. When there's tones of Mexican/Italian Nationals traveling from point A to B. What AM had to do was keep two flights w/ Monterrey tech stop and add two more direct flights. To give you a total of 4 per week as oppose to only two (which was currently offered) . Then do major advertising and have special fares once that happens the loads will keep increasing. Then you can use Ex-MX A330 to cover the direct flight out of AICM!

^ Well think of it, if your investing on a product you want to make a profit. But only if it's well planned out and possibilities of failing have been discussed. Then you jump the gun and do it, right? If failure occurs then it was risk well worth then...

...and yes I look forward to the pix of T2*
