For such a long time, those 767's were symbols of national pride... I mean, they were at the time the largest Mexican widebodies, as DC-10's were in their time too... Great machines...

Getting there

(China Daily)
Updated: 2009-11-05 11:28

There are no direct flights between China and Mexico. Chinese visitors have to fly to Tokyo and catch AeroMexico's flight from Tokyo to Mexico, en route Tijuana. According to the Mexico Tourism Board, however, AeroMexico will launch direct flights between Shanghai and Mexico City next March. There are regular flights from Mexico City to both Merida and Cancun.
Uxmal is 80 km (one and a half hour's bus drive) from Merida. The site at Uxmal is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. If you really want to watch the sunset on the Pyramid of the Magician, you can walk into a small lane and walk out after closing time.
You're better off staying the night at the town near Chichen Itza and do your exploration of the site either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Leave yourself more time to swim in Cenote Ikil, which is only 15-minute drive from Chichen Itza.
Prepare a swimsuit and suntan lotion before you go to Tulum and give yourself at least one more hour to enjoy the beach and the Caribbean.
Suntan lotion, insect repellent and enough water are essential for you to explore the ruins at Coba.

^ So know that it's official that JAL is slashing Mexico City leg. Does anyone have any idea if ANA would turn around and provide the service that JAL will cut soon???

AeroMexico is just waiting to get the full sheet of cake vs a slice of cake in that market. I heard that they are requesting more frequencies @ NRT but so far no luck... If they aren't able to get slots at NRT, I wonder if they would open flights to Incheon International Airport (SkyTeam Hub) instead and use KE codeshare for passenger connections to other Asian destinations?

If anyone has info, it sure would be highly appreciated!

What'd you expect when there's two main factors against JAL.:

1. Major Financial Losses
2. Visa requirements for Mexico Citizens entering Canada

Mexico Airline AeroMexico Sees 2010 Passenger Traffic Up 5%

MEXICO CITY -(Dow Jones)- AeroMexico, one of Mexico's two leading airlines, expects its passenger traffic to grow by about 5% in 2010 after falling 3% this year amid the global economic crisis and local A/H1N1 influenza outbreak, the company's chief executive said Monday.
"This year through October, (passenger traffic) has been lower, but in November and December we're seeing traffic above last year's levels," AeroMexico CEO Andres Conesa told reporters.
Aeromexico, together with low-cost subsidiary AeroMexico Connect, posted passenger traffic of 10.5 million in 2008.
Conesa said AeroMexico hopes to launch a number of new international routes next year.
The carrier plans to resume flights from Mexico City to Shanghai in March after suspending the route this year due to weak load factors.
Conesa said the company is also eyeing possible flights from Mexico to Costa Rica, Colombia, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
AeroMexico is Mexico's No. 2 airline company in passenger traffic, after rival Mexicana.
The government controlled AeroMexico until 2007, when it sold the airline to a group of private investors, led by local Citigroup unit Banamex, for about $250 million.
Conesa said the investors have since injected $240 million into AeroMexico, helping it to weather "two years that have been very difficult."
Top officials at AeroMexico and Mexicana have expressed mild interest in listing shares on the Mexican Stock Exchange, but say they have no immediate plans to do so.
"It's not a project in the short term because the markets aren't right," said Jose Luis Barraza, chairman of AeroMexico's board of directors. "Eventually, we could be looking at it as an option."

AeroMexico sees 2010 passenger traffic up

www.reuters.com
MEXICO CITY, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Airline AeroMexico sees passenger traffic growing 5 percent in 2010 as the Mexican economy recovers from a steep recession, Chief Executive Andres Conesa said on Monday.
Hit by the economic slowdown, AeroMexico and other airlines around the world are struggling with weak demand and volatile fuel prices, although some carriers have said they see early signs of improvement.
"We expect traffic growth of around 5 percent (in 2010) versus 2009," Conesa told reporters.
Underscoring the damage the global economic slump has done to the airline industry, AeroMexico, one of Mexico's two main carriers, said in October it was interested in stock deals with local and foreign players to help improve efficiency.
Citigroup (C.N) and local investors bought money-losing AeroMexico from Mexico's government in 2007 for about $250 million but have struggled to turn it around. (Reporting by Cyntia Barrera Diaz; Editing by Richard Chang) (([email protected]: +52 55 5282 7153; Reuters Messaging: [email protected]))

AeroMexico Moves Terminals at LAX for Faster Service

AeroMexico has moved its international flight operations from Terminal 5 to Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which offers more convenient passenger service with faster customs processing and less waiting time.
The new location also provides more efficient ground handling, baggage re-check and crew operations. Arriving international passengers (except those on early morning flights) will use Terminal 2’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility, which has longer operating hours, eliminating the need to shuttle customers to Tom Bradley International Terminal for customs processing.
AeroMexico offers seven daily, non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Mexico City, Guadalajara, León – El Bajío and Aguascalientes.
