Its a very good album musically...the majority of the cuts are redone live to an extent...if your familiar with some of the beat tapes that Jay Dee had circulating throughout the past 6 years then you'll be familiar with a few of the beats (which are more realized now).

There are a few skippable tracks and in my opinion the album would have been stronger if they had been cut out.

The thing is its hard to tell in some places which parts were completed when He was alive and which parts were completed after his death

for instance I thought the track "So far to go" featuring Common and D'angelo was completed when he was alive, but in the Latest issue of Scratch magazine (with dr. dre on the cover), Karriem Riggins says that D'angelo was only added to that song after Dilla Died....


but all in all i'm c'mon its the g.o.a.t Dilla!!! his music will live forever

yeah Hydro's got the I.D. down...there are few other sources as far as the kick and snare's go...but hyrdo got that part you were looking for...if you got a table and the original record slow down the BPM for some Tom Scott pre Tom cat bliss!

i know this has long since passed for most of you, but it wasn't until a few months ago that i was able to really explore and (promptly) appreciate jdilla's 'donuts'.... its easily the best album i've heard in the past year or so... and maybe its just me, but this one hasn't gotten near the praise it deserves – not necessarily from purists’ or whatever, but from the mainstream audience.... not that it’s a huge shocker or anything... i sometimes forget words like ‘substance’ and ‘mainstream’ just don’t mix… all the same, though… its records like this that keep the culture/music in check and on point.. in my mind anyway…

great little set from kid koala.. one part of the mix has always stood out for me - esp around this time of year... just pay close attention at the 09:45 min/sec mark and you'll see what i mean.. its little sample based bits of ninjatune nastiness like this that keep the wheels spinnin' and the beavers grinnin'..
