CAMBRIDGE | Projects & Construction

It's suprising for me that Cambridge, UK has been absent from this forum all together, provided that city is going through one of the biggest construction booms it has ever seen in its 2000 years of history.

Cambridge has more tower cranes now than much larger cities in the UK such as Leeds, Liverpool and probably Birmingham.

1 Billion GBP project called North West Cambridge by Cambridge University: http://www.nwcambridge.co.uk/ has also started and construction site now looks like some skyscraper construction site in China. It's probably largest mixed used project in the UK outside London.

I will try to provide some updates from this lovely city.

I've been posting some updates here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...435290&page=12

The area around Cambridge train station (the old one, as new one is also under construction as well) is going through the massive transformation. There are currently 5 tower cranes in the close proximity.

The biggest project is Ceres CB1: http://www.ceres-cb1.com/ceres-development/overview which includes the renovation of the old mill.

Majority of the residential houses have been completed now:

Next is construction near the above by Crest Nicholson. It's almost complete as well with few buildings nearing complition.

The site is quite large and forms the whole new cluster around train station:

Larger area:

One of the last remaining buildings left to build:

The Cyan Building:

Cambridge doesn't have highrises and probably would never have. The highest residential house is also next to train station and has been completed this year. It's 10 storey high The Marque building: http://www.themarque-cambridge.com/vision

Development and area around with cinema, hotel and somerestaurants which were developed few years ago as well:

Few from the building, another 9 storey building can be seen on the left (this was completed around 5-6 years ago). Ceres development would be right in front and Nicholson development would on the left:

One of the most expensive development in Cambridge and in the whole UK outside London.

Cambridge Riverside by Berkeley:

It's mostly completed with just two most expensive town houses left on sale.

My pictures from last weekend:

I feel sorry for Cambridge, the city centre is beautiful, unfortunately the dross that surrounds it is awful and what's with the luminous colours on the buildings?
It looks like none of the architects have even visited the city, they might have got a few idea's on how to do it properly.
