Here's a hybrid LCC, which offers free satellite TV... and this particular aircraft is a part of the airline's new service. JetBlue has launched its new Transcontinental (US) product, called "jetBlue Mint", which has the following seating layout on board:

- F4 (Suites, sold as Business Class)
- J12 (flat-bed seats)
- W41 (called Even More Space)
- Y102 (called Coach)

Seating layout and features here

jetBlue A321-200 (WL), "Never a Dull MoMint" (reg. N937JB)

Good question... usually, for that set of flights, I think 1 aircraft a day works fine. The report explained that 10 more routes will be launched out of Copenhagen, which I think is the reason why 4 B738s will be based there. Yet, I think that, if it becomes successful, another aircraft might be deployed to Kastrup so that it can allow more flights later on. The biggest competition for such a launch would come from Scandinavian Airlines, though, which has bases in CPH, ARN, and OSL.

Lion Group set to buy ATR planes in nearly $1 billion deal
source
Quote:
(Reuters) - Indonesia's Lion Group is expected to sign a deal on Thursday to buy about 40 ATR 72-600 aircraft for nearly $1 billion at list prices, a source familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

The order is part of a strategy by Lion Air, one of the world's fastest-growing airlines, to use turboprop planes in remote locations in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The former travel agent captured international attention when he announced record purchases of jets from Boeing and Airbus over the past few years. Airlines usually get large discounts from manufacturers at list prices.

Lion previously ordered 60 ATR aircraft and has taken deliveries of just over 40 planes. Turboprop aircraft fly more slowly than jets, but their lower fuel consumption means they are increasingly popular in growth markets such as Southeast Asia and Latin America.

AirAsia remains world’s top low cost carrier
Posted on December 9, 2014, Tuesday
http://www.theborneopost.com/2014/12...-cost-carrier/

KUCHING: AirAsia Bhd (AirAsia) has claimed the coveted title of ‘World’s Leading Low Cost Airline’ for the second year in a row at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2014 Grand Final Gala Ceremony, which was held in Anguilla.

Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, executive chairman and co-founder of AirAsia, received the award from Graham Cooke, President of World Travel Awards at the Grand Finale of the World Travel Awards 2014.

The World Travel Awards, also hailed as the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry recognizes companies, organizations and brands that push the boundaries of industry excellence.

AirAsia emerged as the winner in the ‘World’s Leading Low Cost Airline’ category, receiving the highest votes from travel professionals from around the globe, surpassing other nominees in the category, namely airberlin, easyJet, flydubai, JetBlue Airways, Jetstar Airways, Kulula, Mango, Norwegian, Ryanair and also Southwest Airlines.

“We are humbled and grateful to receive this recognition for the second consecutive year. This award will never be possible without the hard work, passion, dedication and creativity of our 15,000 AirAsia Allstars. Each and every one of them should be proud that their commitment to the airline has once again put AirAsia on the world map,” Datuk Kamarudin said.

He added that is indeed an honour to be recognized globally, and they are taking this win as a renewal of their commitment in creating a great travel experience for their guests.

“This year, we increased and enhanced our Fly-Thru connections with over 858 connections available throughout our network; launched our Premium Flex service, offering business travellers with flexibility of flights; launched our low-cost Wi-Fi on board, and ready to launch our AirAsia Asean Pass, which is designed to integrate the Asean community – these are just a few of the constant innovations that we work hard to bring to our guests. We will continue to innovate and better serve our markets,” Datuk Kamarudin added.

Earlier in October this year, AirAsia was also named ‘Asia’s Leading Low Cost Airline’ at the World Travel Awards (Asia & Australasia) Gala 2014.

AirAsia has also attained the title of Asia’s Best and World’s Best Low Cost Airline by Skytrax for six consecutive years from 2009 – 2014.

I am surprised that they decided to serve Copenhagen instead of Malmo.

Anyways they will also have heavy competition from Norwegian at CPH which is another LCC but with much better amenities so it will be interesting to see how this transpires.

Ryanair to trial wifi, inflight entertainment this year
14 January 2015
Excerpt

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Ryanair plans to trial inflight entertainment and possibly wifi on some of its flights this year in its latest attempt to attract business travelers and families who were turned off in the past by its bare basics offerings.

Since a pledge last year by Chief Executive Michael O'Leary to stop "unnecessarily pissing people off", Ryanair has slashed penalty charges, overhauled its web site, tripled its marketing budget and launched business class fares.

While Ryanair has long been synonymous with levying extra charges for services offered free on more established airlines, it says it may offer both of the new services for free, Chief Technology Officer John Hurley told journalists on Tuesday.

Finally, it seems that O'Leary is opening up to more options to better cater to its passengers who may be on a tight budget... which airlines should be next in enhancing its in-flight offerings?

Easyjet says would fly from expanded Heathrow airport
Excerpt

LONDON, Jan 30 (Reuters) - British budget airline easyJet has backed Heathrow in London's runway expansion race and said it would start flying from the capital's largest airport if the government chooses to increase its capacity.

British lawmakers and business leaders agree Britain needs new runways to remain economically competitive. A government-commissioned taskforce is assessing whether a new or expanded runway should be built at Heathrow, or Gatwick south of the capital.

"We can say with great confidence that easyJet would operate from Heathrow if a new runway is built," the airline said in a report submitted to the taskforce as part of a consultation.

The airline, based at the smaller Luton Airport north of London, does not offer flights from Heathrow which is typically more expensive to operate from.

Potential easyJet flights from Heathrow would provide 19 new destinations from the airport and lower fares, the airline said, adding that its tickets are typically 40 percent cheaper than those of incumbent operators.

Here is a little update on the Ryanair base in Copenhagen.

The announced routes are....

London-Luton: 3 x daily
Milano - Bergamo: 2 x daily
Warsaw - Modlin: once daily
Stockholm - Skavsta: Once Daily
Madrid: Once Daily
Brussels - Charleroi: Once daily
Roma - Ciampino: once daily

The added frequencys on Luton and Bergamo and the 4 new routes will be effective from September/ October.

Easyjet is taking up the competition and adds a 3rd flight on Mondays to Fridays on the Luton route happening from the 5th of October.

It is expected that Ryanair will reveal most if not all of the last 6 routes in a months time.

Ryanair is starting up on the 26th of March but the Unions at the airport threatens with lockouts and strikes if Ryanair don΄t make a deal with them.

INTERVIEW-Ryanair's ascent can't be repeated, says former finance boss Millar
Excerpt

DUBLIN, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Having been at the financial controls since Ryanair's traffic has climbed from under 1 million passengers a year to over 90 million, Howard Millar is confident no upstart can repeat that performance.

"That (low-cost) train has left the station a long time ago and I think it will be increasingly difficult for start-ups to gain any traction," he told Reuters on the sidelines of an annual aviation finance gathering in Dublin.

Millar, who stepped down last month as chief financial officer after nearly 23 years at the company, where he will still have a role as a non-executive director, said he cannot see either the continent's established giants or a newcomer having the opportunities Ryanair had when he joined.

Instead the sector will be dominated by a handful of all-powerful carriers, with Lufthansa, Air France-KLM and British Airways owner IAG focusing on long-haul, conceding the short-haul market to Ryanair and its nearest rival easyJet.

A new player would struggle to get financing or planes as cheaply as Ryanair and would struggle to compete with its huge economies of scale and market presence, he said.

And the so-called legacy carriers will ultimately have to concede that they can't retroactively transform their cost base and will therefore have to focus on lower volume, higher margin businesses.

"These guys are in such a straitjacket that they don't have that opportunity. They have tried all kinds of things ... but none have made any money or reduced their cost base."

Beside the new base in CPH Ryanair announced a new base at SXF (5 based B738) and expansion at CGN (additional 2 based B738, 3 in total) from winter 2015/2016. There will also be German domestic link CGN-SXF with 4 daily flights.
A lot of business routes to main airports/destination in competition to EZY and 4U/EW launched.
