-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

935 Foot World Trade Center Tower Plan Submitted for Biscayne Boulevard

Quote:
A group of developers has submitted plans to the City of Miami for a 77 story tower planned to be the World Trade Center of the Americas for Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami, on the site of the Holiday Inn at 340 Biscayne Boulevard, reports The Next Miami. The tower, designed by Arquitectonica, will take up every inch of allowable development under the zoning code, be mixed use, with offices on levels 16 to 23, a 100 room hotel on floors 27 to 36, and residential from 37 on up to 76.

Good to hear of more towering proposals. Miami needs more of this height, especially with a few supertalls in the works.
PS, holy modernism! if it weren't for the facade this would be one of the blandest 280m towers out there.

The name doesn't bother me since Miami touts itself as the gateway to Latin America so in a way it makes sense. The design isn't all that great especially with the recessed balconies and this coming from Miami based world renowned Arquitectonica.
Can't they put a spire instead of a flat top roof? Perhaps a observatory since it faces Biscayne Bay , the Port of Miami , Miami Beach & the Atlantic Ocean with spectacular views?
Also this area is Zoned for buildings over 1,000 ft. | 300m + as well so why not build to the maximum height that is allowed?

The design is modest, I agree. The quality of the renders is very poor. They look like a scan of a paper.

Curiously I've just saw a posible proposal for Minneapolis almost the same height, proportions and massing as this one, coincidentially called Nicollet Gateway.

But in this case, that sort of wrap thing it has, looks pretty bad, IMO, like they are trying to hard. In the case of the Minneapolis one, the tower is simpler, yet more elegant and I think it manages to be more iconic, just with a lit crown.

Here's the one from Minneapolis

Well the reason ours is called the Nicollet Gateway is because it lies right in the former Gateway District which was torn down completely during urban renewal.

The name is stupid because there's already a world trade center in the America.

It's World Trade Center of the Americas (meaning North and South America), not "in the America."

The name is licensed by the World Trade Centers Association. Many cities have them. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...PNIn4z-fPlg13g

Hi guys, I recorded a registry while I was traveling during my last vacation in July.

I took two pictures of the address. The Holliday Inn is now in the site.

FAA Approved! http://www.thenextmiami.com/index.ph...faa-last-week/

Quote:
Several developers received approval from the FAA to build ‘supertall’ towers in downtown Miami last week.

Each of the approved buildings is taller than any existing tower in Florida.

The newly approved buildings include:

•One Bayfront Plaza – 1,005 feet above ground, 1,010 feet above sea level

•1201 Brickell Bay Drive (Villa Magna) Tower 1 – 995 feet above ground, 1,000 feet above sea level

•1201 Brickell Bay Drive (Villa Magna) Tower 2 – 995 feet above ground, 1,000 feet above sea level

•World Trade Center Of The Americas – 969 feet above ground, 980 feet above sea level
