Are you crazy? I would never demolish a brand new building, even if it were damaged by fire (unless it had severe structural problems). If I were to rebuild it from scratch, the workers would mess up and the building would not look the same. This is about the restoration of a fire-damaged building. I have a prediction that the work will last five years or more.

So they really haven't done much to clean up the damage for a year!

The worst part is that it's next to one of the greatest buildings ever! Which is now also behind that big bunker-like wall.

It must be a pretty tricky job to get the old cladding off safely. It looks like it could fall off at any moment.

It was fixed. It's to the left of the CCTV.

CCTV is so impressive. am I the only one to think it's one of those most underrated modern building of the world...when i went to beijing in 2010 it seems that nobody (tourist) would go that end...ok yes i know it's a CBD but some other cities CBD are more visited by tourists (Paris La Defense, London Docklands etc...)...

Beijing has also two other modern architectural wonders : the olympic stadium and the wonderful egg shape opera house near historic center

it seems they are not really exhibited how they should.

by the way, when in Beijing from which tower can i get such view of Cctv ?

I like this building's unique design. Unfortunately most of the time you can't see it because of the smog

These photos of the CCTV headquarter were taken on 16th January, I used a phone camera with automatic mode and no filters or post processing was applied. It was an overcast day, with pollution in the air. It shocked me to see how dirty and worn the CCTV headquarters looks now, with dark smears running down from several corners, and I remember very well the silver shine of the cladding when it was brand new. I guess the heavy pollution pays its tribute on the bulding.

thank u for that observation.

as much as Beijing is an exciting city with fantastic innovative buildings (a photographer's paradise), it might be hell to live there

that pollution issue is such that someone accepting a job in Beijing might truly be desperate for money

Something I noticed a lot on my visits in China. Even 5 star hotels and other luxury buildings look dirty. I'm not sure if they just don't care about maintenance or if the air is so dirty there is no use in cleaning it afterwards every time it rains. Would really love to hear an explanation of why they let the buildings become so dirty... Such a difference with for example Tokyo...

I mean, isn't this building like an icon as well as a 'visitor card' voor the CCTV (and also the Chinese government)? Why would they let their main symbol of media become so dirty? People inside can barely look outside like this!
