Those diagonal beams! I don't like them! What about the windows? You have to look at a peace of concrete the whole time!

Re the steel 'exoskeleton' the architect observed that Industrial pollution* creates a heavy mist in the air of Beijing that makes architecture look bad. Ole and his team noticed that the buildings that looked best in this environment were those still under construction and hidden behind scaffold and protective sheets. This became the inspiration for the fine mesh panels that will cover the surface of CCTV.

From http://rob.annable.co.uk/journal.cgi/architecture/ole a blog-ee who took notes at one of the architects lectures.

Also of note from that link is the fact there are 60 architects and 110 engineers involved in this project - I was surprised at how many architects are involved in a project like this.

And it's got an extended part at the back. I always love this type of architecture? What's it called?

Modelmaking

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone can give me a link to the koolhaus practice website. I'm a third year modelmaking degree student from the arts institute in England, I'm thinking of building CCTV for my Final Major - anyone know how hard it'd be to get hold of the plans?

impossible to get the plans from OMA directly. it's probably illegal. however, you can check their A+U issue for all sorts of drawings and folded-out facade diagram.... all told you should be able to sort out how to make a model.

I think it's more legal to ask permission from OMA first.

Yeah i mailed oma and they gave me a link to that a+u article but its hardly detailed enough for a model - it has no measurements to scale from, no proper elevations or site plans etc.

Any other ideas anyone?
