Well... the Olympics can start even if CCTV isn't finished

Well the Olympics has it's own media center building for the press. So I don't think the CCTV tower is suppose to play a role in the Olympics except that some journalists may want to broadcast from there if it's finished by then. Besides wasn't the completion date after the Olympics anyway?

I want to know if they're still going to have a side of the building be a large TV screen.

i m not so shure...i think they need 4-5 months only to complete the connection, and let s say during this they ll work on cladding...there s too much to work for finishing it in the interior.
i think it ll be ready some parts of the building only for what is needed for the olympics.

The connection is well underway. Check out Dutch Tom's Flicker site.
He used to post on this thread, but I think everyone has been jacking his photos.

I wonder how close they will actually come to the point of connection, like within inches, or if they will have to use "artifiticial" means to "pull" the connection together.

I read something like - they will be doing it at dawn - due to the expansion and contraction of the building - or something like that, it would be worth me digging that quote out.

What if there is a terribly windy day, and the two sides start bashing against each other?

Maybe that's the reason why, as someone reported, the builders will have to join the edges in as little as minutes: when they're so close, even slight oscillations can get dangerous. Or can they?

I'm guessing that they will build more of the structure so they can connect at multiple points, i can't imagine that they will connect just one point, or the occilations will rip the connection(s) apart, plus i think that if there is to much movement they will wait for better conditions before they do anything.

This is prolly matter for the more engineering-conscious forumers to discuss. But hey, those semi-towers look very solid and rigid, don't they.

Very exciting part of the construction indeed. Eagerly waiting for the puzzle to be pieced together completely - what a superbe challenge for all involved in the process.
