I hope the authorities track down whoever started the fireworks near the building put them on trial and shoot them for being complete morons.

A multi million dollar structure up in smoke becus they didn't have sense in not shooting fireworks near an incomplete building.

Why could they not find an open area like say a park or shoot the fireworks by a riverside to avoid houses and property from catching fire???

total stupidity!! All that money, resources and time building the structure gone in minutes.

A few weeks ago some country bumpkins throwing a new year's party started fireworks in a building, yes in an enclose structure resulting in a large fire that killed half a dozen people.

These things just piss me off. Total lack of common sense.

Moreover why did such a modern structure like this can go up like a cheap christmas tree?? This building should have been made of the latest fire retardant material, how can a small fire consume the structure in such a small space of time??

If this building were say completed with hundreds of people working in the offices, a fire like this would have killed all of them within minutes.

It took a jet(s) loaded with jet fuel to take down the former World Trade towers but a small fire from fireworks can wipe out such a modern tower??

I am totally shocked and dismayed.

It's China, so that probably will happen. It is not a good thing.

Just followed an interview on the dutch television with Rem Koolhaas. He said that the fire spread so fast because the sprinklersystems were not working yet.

This is a great loss for Beijing and OMA. I hope they had a good insurance so they can rebuild this stunning tower.

I wonder if our beloved CCTV got damaged by the explosions and flying debris.

Can't wait to see some daylight pictures to realise the real level of damage.

Even without that, I am surprised by the severity of this fire.

Holy crap, our local news dont even care about this major disaster.

How long did it actually burn until they extinguished the fire? It looks like the whole fire started end ended unbelievably fast, like the whole structure was made of fire accelerant.

Which local news? I've seen it in the news, there it sounds that it is the CCTV Building that is burning. Good news that it isn't, and that nobody was hurt during the fire!

German. It's a small sidenote on TV (even on news stations) and hardly anywhere on the internet.

Did the underlying steel structure survive?

Can't believe they were setting the firworks off so close to the buildings! Would it not of made sense to fire them from the roofs rather than street level?

Holy shit, this building looked so great with the boxes shiftin in and out but Im SOOO ******* HAPPY it wasnt CCTV HQ. THis stuff sucks shitloads though but ohh dude..

I watched this thing on Discovery a couple of years ago and I loved it. I jsut finished and WHY!!!???

can anyone show some pics of what the building looks like now? dont tell me its a heap of ash. Is there still hope for this building?

How did the fire light? did someone shoot fireworks at it? One single Fire arrow cant do this much damage can it?

Were any people injured? did they have enough time to go out?

I just checked a news article and it said no injuries are reported cus it was night and the building wasnt in operation yet Some good news there.

I really hope this building can be repaired. If not then rebuild it or get something real nice in its place.
