That's what you get when you construct a building like a chimney. Thank God this shit isn't going to happen in May 2009 (Opening of the hotel) anymore. I can't imagine what would have happened with the hotel fully occupied.

Oh dear... just weeks ago I watched a CCTV-9 documentary about the new CCTV headquarters designed by Rem Koolhas. Just can't believe this is actually happening. So sad

I guess probably will take 1.5 years of refurbishment; I don't think it's a total loss, as buildings u/c have fires all the time and still end up well (SWFC is the biggest example). Still, it is a big catastrophe, though this building wasn't my favorite in terms of architecture.

diging further and further into construction photos i would say the fireworks set the roof on fire witch we already know and being its all sheet metal it got hot enuff to melt it and it fell down onto the 2nd roof and spread and fallowed the fuel source witch is tar used as a vapor barior on roofs and inbehind the finishing skin

I wonder what the spectators think? on the last day of lunar new year celebration, there was extravagant fireworks, followed by a real fire. I hope they have money to rebuild it, at least change the cladding materials to less combustive types

Terrible loss! That fire was burning furiously, such a shame, I actually liked that building.

And those weren't any "consumer" fireworks. Those were put on by the big boys. That is an incredible planning failure by the pyrotechnic crews. It's like they didn't know how big the firework shells they were launching were.
