Palermo airport, the new arrivals area opened today

Three thousand square meters, a new bar with 50 seats. The most anticipated of restyling phases of the airport, which marks an increase of passengers by 12.5 percent in first six months

It has always been the Achilles heel of the airport and a long expected the completion of renovation works that have gone on for steps and not always respecting the roadmap. But now the "Falcone e Borsellino Airport" has its arrivals hall completed and inaugurated today. Three thousand square meters of space with porcelain tile floors and controsofitto seismic and sound absorbing, lighting the LED, the new bar run by Autogrill with fifty seats and fifty other places in the area for waiting passengers. And then the area for the children, twelve boxes for car rentals and modern technical facilities. A work from half a million euro in addition to the nearly three million spent on the external works to the lobby.

Cut the ribbon, the mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando, President of ENAC Vito Riggio, and Fabio Giambrone Giuseppe Mistretta, president and CEO of Gesap, the Palermo airport management, the Board and the shareholders of the company. An important element in the work of the air terminal adaptation which recently saw the opening of four new security gates at the third level, eight escalators energy-saving after the arrangement of roads and moving Gesap offices in the new building services. And the work does not end there. They will be completed by December as the third check-in, the new computer network room, baggage and aircraft apron. Then start the new 2016-2019 program involving a total amount of 74.2 million euros, of which 61.2 million in cash flow from the management company. The main initiatives envisaged are seismic upgrading and renovation of the passenger terminal, the construction of the new arrivals hall, the upgrading of the airport infrastructures and the expansion of the aircraft apron. And this goes on the comparison distance between the municipality and the mayor of Orlando, the majority shareholder Gesap and ENAC Vito Riggio, and the sources of financing. Riggio esattemente wants to know where the money without privatizing, Orlando ensures that we think banks will be found.

Meanwhile, the traffic data are still growing. The month of June ended with a + 9.95% of passenger traffic compared with the same period in 2015. The transits were 517,178, about 47 thousand more than in June 2015, amounting to an average of 1,500 passengers per day. Traffic forecasts indicate that in each of the next three months (July, August and September) the bar will more than half a million passengers.

In the first six months of the year passenger traffic, it totaled 2,396,831, ie 12.59% more than the same period last year, an increase of about 267 thousand travelers. positive (+10.38) also for flights: 19,382. In the period from January to June, the total international traffic was 453,896 passengers (+ 22,36%), with growth of about 81 thousand transits more than in 2015, a clear sign of the increase in flights and international routes.

In 2016, Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate and Bergamo are the three most popular domestic routes, with a growth of between 9% and 11%. Other national fast-growing routes are: Verona (+ 46%) and Turin (+ 41%). London Stansted, Paris Orly and Dusseldorf Weeze are hardest jokes international routes. Increased by 6% in London and Dusseldorf; Paris has achieved a 33% increase, thanks to the extension of the frequencies during the winter period.

Air Malta Registers Excellent Results on New Palermo Route

Date: Friday, 02 September 2016

In its first two months of operations Air Malta’s new route to Palermo has registered excellent results with load factors reaching an average of 90%. The twice weekly schedule to the Sicilian capital, which commenced on the 4th July, will be retained throughout winter 2016/7.

“We are excited with these encouraging preliminary figures,” commented Ursula Silling, Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer. “In just two months we have carried over 5,000 guests and we are on track to carry around 20,000 passengers in our first year of operation. Our low fares, coupled with the choice of products that include the ‘Best Value’ fares that offer child discounts, flexibility as well as seat selection for free or at a reduced price, are making Air Malta products more enticing to our guests”, added Ms Silling.

The airline has undergone extensive market research and customer surveys prior to launching this route which showed there was the demand and potential for this market. The airline reacted fast and introduced this service in a relatively short period this summer.

The services between Malta and Palermo are operating in addition to the 15 weekly flights to the island’s other important city of Catania. This strong presence in the Sicilian market reinforces Air Malta’s leading position serving the two islands and the national airline’s commitment to both markets.

Air Malta offers the best choice for travellers not only to Sicily but throughout Italy where the airline operate also with the most convenient timings to Rome and to Milan’s preferred Linate airport that is conveniently located close to the city. These frequencies bring Air Malta’s operations to Italy to a total of 34 weekly flights and the highest number of frequencies per destination compared to any other carrier.

With over 2,700 years of history, the Sicilian capital has a lot to offer to the Maltese wishing to visit this beautiful city. Likewise the Maltese Islands have a lot to offer to Sicilians from a rich cultural heritage to entertainment opportunities.

Air Malta’s flight schedule is operating as follows:

Monday
dep Malta 13:15h arr Palermo 14:15h
dep Palermo 15:05h arr Malta 15:55h

Thursday
dep Malta 19:50h arr Palermo 20:50h
dep Palermo 21:40h arr Malta 22:30h

More information is available on www.airmalta.com, by calling Air Malta’s Call Centre on +356 21662211, from Air Malta sales office at Malta International Airport or from Travel Agents in Malta or Italy.

Thomas Cook will offer a weekly flight between Birmingham and Comiso for Summer 2017.

New route, new hotel: Birmingham to Sicily

Thomas Cook is launching Sicily as a new destination for Summer 2017, with the latest brochures on sale from 14 July. We will be offering flights from Birmingham to the newly opened airport in Comiso, Southern Sicily, from May to October, positioning Thomas Cook Airlines as the only airline to operate flights to the South Eastern corner of Sicily from Birmingham.

This launch will also see the opening of the SENTIDO Acacia Marina - the newest addition to Thomas Cook’s SENTIDO hotels offering, and the first to open in Italy. The SENTIDO Acacia Marina will appeal to discerning single travellers and couples who value quality and service as well as varied cuisine, spa facilities and modern accommodation.

Packed with Unesco World Heritage sites and sandy beaches, the South Eastern corner of Sicily has a character all of its own. Just a 20-minute drive from the airport, the SENTIDO Acacia Marina is located close to beautiful beaches in the authentic Sicilian resort of Marina di Ragusa, with plenty of local culture nearby.

Sicily has been added to our Italy programme as demand for the destination continues to grow, and this this area of Sicily is waiting to be explored. Both of the hotels on offer are located in the area recently explored by popular TV presenter Alexi Polizzi in her Channel 5 series “Secret Italy.”

Sicily is our fourth new destination on sale for Summer 2017, following the launch of Mykonos, Costa Del Sol and Croatia earlier this year.

Seven night on all-inclusive at the SENTIDO Acacia Marina start from £629 per person based on 2 adults sharing and departing from Birmingham on 3rd May 2017. To book www.thomascook.com, 0844 412 5970, or through the nearest Thomas Cook or Co-operative Travel.*

Flights from Birmingham to Comiso start from £50 per person at www.thomascookairlines.com
