Can we change the title of this thread, please? The name of the city is Torino. I know... I've been there... I've seen the street signs.

p.s. - If you ever visit Torino, I recommend riding this elevator in the Museo Nazionale del Cinema. The ride up through the room is very cool, then you end up on an outdoor balcony with amazing views of the city.

Turin is the International name of the city. Same with Moskva - Moscow, Warszawa - Warsaw, The Hague - Den Haag, Milan - Milano, etc etc.

Torino is a proper noun... a name, it's not a translatable word. The name of the city is Torino. Ask anybody from Torino.

Regardless, the proposed building is kind of interesting. I give it a seven.

You don't get it (it has nothing to do with translations). Nevermind then. The answer stands, no name change.

I do get it.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...06_torino.html

"Our presenters and commentators will initially be using 'Turin,' because that is how the city is known in the English-speaking world, and [it] will relate better to the vast majority of our viewers," English said.

"However," he added, "we will try as much as possible to bring in the Italian 'Torino' at appropriate moments, in order to reflect the official name of the city and educate the audience."

But I realize I'm running up against a brick wall, so I give up. On with the discussion of Turin's new building.
