It depends how you look at it. Dubai's first supertall and the World's current only hypertall, have both generated a heck of an investment return for the city.

The name of the district gives it away.

so, in the context of the city of Guangzhou, this tower would be built out in the middle of nowhere? Looks like the only important place out there is the port.

Well it has a good location, will inevitably become a new urban center but my prediction is in 10-15 years down the line.

In this way the city will spread out quite a bit. I like tight clusters a lot more.

I agree, dense, tall building lead to a much more efficient city!

It will only be part of the city on paper. The area around it will dense up eventually and it becomes a new cluster in the middle of the whole pearl river delta. When guangzhou dongguan and shenzhen all are connected by the metrosystem, nansha will basically become and important link in between all of them and an attractive placeto work or live.

I agree with this observation 100% There is nothing more impressive than one cluster followed by another in the distance then another the sheer immensity of the urban area.

Another approx. 1000m project in the middle of nowhere...

It such a pity that it is not inside an existing urban center.

The design is a placeholder. It's literally Burj Khalifa and CTF Guangzhou photoshopped together

It's unlikely that this building will reach 900 meters if it' ever built.

However you need to brush up on your facts Nansha which is part of Guangzhou which is part of the Pearl River Delta is hardly in the middle of nowhere.

Hong Kong , Shen Zhen and Guangzhou are among the busiest ports in the wolrd making the Pearl River one of the busiest waterways in the wolrd.

There are at least five international airports nearby a urban population nearby of around 60 million situated near the proposed Shen Zhen Zhong Shan bridge it will also be the site of a proposed free trade zone . In terms of GDP it's in the heart of the second largest area in China making it one of the larger regions in the world.

There are multiple existing Urban centers in the region already some of them in the near vicinity soon to be link together by metro, intercity or HSR.

Lets assume none of the above apply Just the fact you build a 1000 meter building in the middle of somewhere automatically makes it a place of interest for people AKA the Kingdom Tower.

Hmmm, to me that looks much taller than 900m. But very interesting design, best I've seen a while.

I didn't mean the design of this project in my post. Anyone posted a render of Nakheel Tower above, that's what i meant. But seems the pic has been deleted.

The planning in that site is god-awful!!! This is being designed to completely neglect the street. While the tower is nice, it does not work with the context and will result in the same problem of that plaques Dubai and many East Asian cities in which the streetscape is completely hostile to pedestrians and thus devoid of life.

I don't think you understand what it's like to live in an ultra-dense part of the world. There's never a problem with street life in China because so long as there's room, somebody will set up shop. The more room, the merrier. In the Western world it's not just that there may be people around but that they're allowed to hawk their crap wherever is convenient. In China people just sort of show up.

I just wish, if this tower will ever be built, that they change the design to something more unique bcz such a great height deserves a one of a kind look to it not a cheap rip off of Burj khalifa
