Lloyd Goldman’s BLDG Management is looking to bring a new, 449-foot-tall, 41-story residential tower to Midtown East, according to an application filed today with the city’s Department of Buildings.

The site at 212-214 East 44th Street currently houses a 10-story parking garage. Goldman paid $32 million for it in April.

The new building — which will have the address 222 East 44th Street — will span roughly 300,000 square feet, according to the permit application. It will have 429 residential units spread out over 39 floors, and 87 of the units will be affordable, according to a representative from SLCE Architects, the architect of record.

Planned amenities include a swimming pool and a basketball court on the second floor. The first floor will include a roughly 2,300-square-foot retail space, according to the permit application.

87 Affordable Apartments Coming to 41-Story Tower in Midtown East
http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/2015...r-midtown-east

Quote:
MIDTOWN EAST — Eighty-seven affordable apartments are coming to Midtown East, thanks to a developer who plans to knock down a parking garage and build a 41-story residential tower in its place, the city said.

The new building at 214 E. 44th St. will include 429 apartments, about 20 percent of which will be designated to low-income households, according to a spokesman for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

The proposal is still in the early stages of review, HPD spokesman Eric Bederman said.

BLDG Management, the developer, purchased the property for $32 million in April 2014, according to online property records.

BLDG Management is planning a new tower with a swimming pool and basketball court on the second floor and 2,300 square feet of retail space on the first floor, The Real Deal reported.

The Department of Buildings has already issued a permit allowing the developer to demolish the current 11-story parking garage, according to online records.

BLDG Management did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

New Renderings

Work is underway at BLDG Management's new residential tower at 222 West 44th Street and you can now see what it will look like. New renderings of the Handel Architects-designed tower, which is replacing a garage that has already been demolished, were published by 6sqft on Friday (though at least one of those images has been at the work site since August). At 43 stories, it will be two stories taller than reported back in February. The 556-foot-tall building will have 429 units with 87 of them being affordable.
