How long are the PD14 tests supposed to last...I doubt if the 'hot' tests are done somehow.

What do you mean? The flying laboratory is used precisely for 'hot' testing. During November they have conducted 4 test flights. I'm not sure how many flights there are in the testing program. But i'm guessing they have enough time given the sertification process begins in 2017.

This airframe is scheduled for first flight in December 2016. The first rollout will be on June 8.

the Irkut is going to be the only real alternative to breaking the 737/a320 duopoly.
I dont think Chinese carriers will have confidence in whatever the new Chinese version is called..but the Russian domestic carriers will provide a strong base for the MS-21.
I can see Iran ordering a ton.

While it is too early to tell if this would be true, I think I am going to lean towards this idea. The Chinese so far hasn't built a successful airliner. It looks like they don't know how to build one. And even if they do, they may not know how to sell one. All they did was build on old but proven models yet they're having tons of problems. How on earth are they going to fair better with their first ever clean sheet?

As much as I'm utterly fascinated by the MS-21, I don't think it's going to be an alternative to the 737 and A320. I would suggest that Bombardier's CSeries, especially if they go-ahead with the CS500, would be a far more realistic 3rd player. The MS-21 has not even gone for its first flight while the first A320NEOs are starting to be delivered to customers while the 737MAX is going through certification. Even then, the orders for Airbus and Boeing are skewing towards the larger aircraft and since Irkut announced it wasn't going ahead with the -400 and the -200 (sacrificed to the SSJ115 or SSJ130 whichever they decide to build), the MS-21 is just a single airplane without a family.

In my opinion, they could have pulled a Bombardier CSeries and secretly market a Airbus-Boeing sized plane by expanding the SSJ platform. I could see the SSJ going for high-density six-abreast very easily to be attractive to low-cost carriers.
