Bahadurgarh in Haryana will become the second town in Haryana to be connected with the national capital through Delhi Metro as the foundation stone for construction of a 12-km corridor was laid today.

Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda jointly laid the foundation stone for the construction of the nearly 12km Metro corridor between Mundka and Bahadurgarh at Sector 9, Bahadurgarh today.

The 11.181 kilometre long corridor between Mundka and Bahadurgarh will be entirely elevated with seven stations -- four in Delhi and three in Haryana.
It will be an extension of the already operational Inderlok–Mundka corridor (Line 5) and will run on standard gauge.
An agreement regarding the same was also signed between the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).

To be built at a cost of Rs 1,991 crore, the corridor will be completed by March 2016.

The Metro corridor will run along National Highway -10 (Rohtak Road) on an elevated viaduct and the expected daily ridership by the year 2016 will be 1.42 lakh which would increase to 1.97 lakh by 2021.

The civil construction work of this corridor is expected to start by July and areas which will benefit by this corridor are Mundka, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan in Delhi and parts of Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district of Haryana.

2 more Metro Stations for Okhla

Tenders awarded and construction has commenced for 2 more Metro Stations for Okhla-

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to construct two more Metro stations in the Okhla industrial area in south Delhi under its phase 3 expansion plans.

The congested industrial suburb is a hub of medium and small-scale industries that houses corporate offices and call centres of several business process outsourcing (BPO) companies and there has been a long-pending demand for a robust public transport system in the area.

The two new stations — Okhla Phase 3 and Okhla Vihar — will come up on the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor, said a spokesperson of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

While the Okhla Phase 3 station will come up near the Okhla Railway station, just ahead of the Modi Mill flyover, the latter will come up behind the Jamia Nagar police station, a DMRC spokesperson said.

Okhla is divided into three phases. As per a traffic survey conducted by the Delhi Metro, the two upcoming stations will cater to more than 20,000 new commuters, when they open by 2016. The ridership is expected to rise to about 25,000 by 2021.

Presently, Okhla has just one Metro station on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur Metro corridor (violet line). The station is located in Harkesh Nagar area of Okhla’s Phase 2 and registers a footfall of nearly 5,100 passengers every day.

“The Okhla Phase 3 Metro station will be a big boon for the Okhla Industrial Area Phase 3 complex, which houses many industrial units and offices of private companies. There is no Metro connectivity to this area right now. The nearest Metro station is Kalkaji on the violet line,” said Anuj Dayal, chief spokesperson of DMRC.

The tenders for the construction of these Metro stations have been awarded and work has begun.

Metro tunnel to pass under Barapullah’s INA Metro extension corridor

Work commenced in February 2013 on the INA Market Metro Extension and the underground Metro Tunnel construction below that will commence in April.

NEW DELHI: The extension of the Barapullah elevated corridor till INA Market — work on which is expected to begin this Saturday — will have a Metro line built simultaneously underneath it. The state public works department (PWD) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will coordinate with each other as both projects require extensive digging work around the same area.

The Barapullah extension will link Lodhi Road to Aurobindo Marg while the Metro project will connect stations at Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar on the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar line.

DMRC plans to begin boring the tunnel by April-end, said officials. "As a result, we have to finish the piling work for building foundation pillars before DMRC begins digging. Once DMRC begins work, the area will be too disturbed for laying foundation pillars," said a senior PWD official.

While the first part of the extension will continue at ground level from Lodhi Road to the Bhishma Pitamah Flyover, it will be raised on stilts to cross the Sewa Nagar railway line and descend near Thyagaraja Stadium. The rest of the extended road till Aurobindo Marg will not be elevated but will continue on low stilts with deep foundation pillars, said officials.

"DMRC will do the tunnel boring work so as to not disturb the 20-foot deep foundation pillars of the Barapullah structure. Once the foundation pillars are constructed, work by both agencies can go on at the same time," added the PWD official.

The Rs 385-crore project will have six additional loops, connecting Ashram, INA Market, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and the DND Flyway to the corridor. While there will be exit from and entry to the elevated road from INA Market side on the Aurobindo road carriageway from Sarojini Nagar towards AIIMS, there will be an additional elevated loop to exit the elevated road to the opposite side carriageway of Aurobindo Marg.

A loop will be provided to access the elevated road from Thyagaraj Stadium, to travel towards Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Sarai Kale Khan. Two loops that descend to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg will also be constructed. One will provide access to Lodhi Road over Silver Oak Park for those coming from the direction of Sarai Kale Khan, towards CGO complex. The other will cater to commuters heading for Sanchar Bhawan.

"The elevated road will also connect Ashram and DND via loops. A service road for buses moving from Ring Road to Sarai Kale Khan will help decongest traffic on Ring Road by segregating buses from other vehicles," added the official.

While there will be a loop descending to Ring Road near Ashram and DND for those coming from Sarai Kale Khan side, a second loop will ascend from Ashram to Barapullah.
