Phase 1 aerial render; the reality is better, but the skywalk remains to be completed.

TNN | Mar 18, 2013, 02.42 AM IST

NEW DELHI: The third phase of Delhi Metro will have some of the longest foot overbridges. "Delhi Metro will construct these overbridges and ramps at six of the seven interchange stations on line 7 of phase III," a DMRC spokesperson said. Line 7 is the Mukundpur to Shiv Vihar corridor which is 55.6km long.

The FOB will provide easy movement to commuters within the paid area of the Metro station. The foot overbridges will be some of the longest in the network, say DMRC officials, ranging from 70m to 200m long.
Interestingly, many of the stations on this line which are getting interconnected through the overbridge and ramps are elevated and underground stations.

The interchange stations are Azadpur, Netaji Subhas Place, Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar I, Karkarduma, Anand Vihar and Welcome.
"At Anand Vihar, the new station will be adjacent to the operational one and connectivity is not required. Lifts and escalators will be provided and connectivity will be from concourse to concourse," added the spokesperson.
The reason for constructing the overbridges and ramps is constraints like inadequate land availability near existing stations and alignment which made it very difficult to connect new stations with the operational ones.

At Azadpur Metro station, the connectivity will be with line 2 (Jahangirpuri-HUDA city centre).
The overbridge is 197m long as it connects the existing Azadpur station, which is elevated, with the new station that will be underground.

At Netaji Subhash Place, the connectivity is with line 1 (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) through a 200-m FOB. Again, the connection will be between elevated and semi-underground stations.

However, at Rajouri Garden, the interchange will be with line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida city centre) through a 175m long FOB. Both stations are elevated.

Similarly, both the stations are elevated at Mayur Vihar I, Welcome and Karkarduma Metro stations, which will have foot overbridges ranging from 70m to 101m. Here, the connectivity will be with line 3, line 1 and line 4 (Dwarka Sector 21-Vaishali

Noida: In what may bring some relief to the daily passengers travelling via Metro, the Noida Authority has planned to launch a fleet of mini buses that will connect most of the sectors in the satellite city of Noida to all metro stations in the city.

In January this year, at least six roadways buses had reportedly begun operations as feeder vehicles within the city on some fixed routes. However, as the buses did not ferry passengers from the sectors or around the market areas, the service failed to generate satisfactory public response.

The detailed plan for the mini buses as well as the route revision is scheduled to be finalized within a month's time.

KONE elevators to ease flow of people in Delhi Metro network

KONE has won an order for 143 KONE MonoSpace elevators to be installed at stations in the third phase of the Delhi Metro network extension in Northern India. The contract follows previous orders for 395 elevators and 75 escalators in the first two phases of the expansion of the Delhi Metro.

The new order includes 70 stainless steel elevators with glass doors and a further 73 elevators with stainless steel doors. Braille buttons and a voice announcement system are included to improve accessibility for all passengers while elevator mirrors ease accessibility for wheelchair users. The vandal-proof elevators also feature additional door photo-sensors, fire-rated glass and fire retardant low smoke cables to maximize passenger safety.

"We have a long-standing relationship with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and we understand the passenger requirements in the public transport sector. This has helped us provide the best possible solutions for the Delhi Metro, and we are delighted to continue our involvement in this, the third phase of the project," said Neeraj Sharma, Managing Director for KONE India.

KONE has been involved in the Delhi Metro extension project from the start, and the third phase is currently under Indian government construction. Once completed, the network will be some 330 kilometers long.

The Delhi Metro, which aims to cover the whole metropolis by 2021, has operated since 2002, bringing relief to the city's congested transport network. To address the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's environmental considerations, the ordered machine-room-less KONE elevators include ecologically sound features such as energy-saving regenerative drives, LED lighting and low energy consuming motors.

The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Thanks for sharing this great stuff on Delhi Metro. It really good that they are coming with new projects and making easy connectivity in Delhi and around NCR. But when construction take place then people actually have to save lots of problems. Likewise on Ring Road and in South Ex, there is massive crowd of jams due to construction. I hope that it would get prepared soon.

MarquitaMatthew, are you located in Harare (Zimbabwe) or Delhi (India)?
I'm not sure when you had that experience, but that hasn't been a real issue for many years.
I can say that from first-hand experience.

However, I appreciate your contributing to this thread; thanks!
