Indeed. In this case it seems unnecessary to have a separate thread for this or for Gurgaon thinking about it. If Tokyo metro area (which includes Saitama, Yokohama, Chiba and other large cities) has one thread, I don't see why we cannot make a Delhi Capital Region thread and keep everything in one place. I'll wait for feedback on this, though.

I agree too on suggestion that is not necessary to create another thread for Greater Delhi region, but I like the progress on new infrastructure projects in India. Maybe we need to merge this thread with Metro thread, or what else suggestion does anybody have?

Independant as in there will be no connections and people won't be using both as part of the same trip? Seems unlikely. IMO one metropolitan area gets one thread asa base and the biggest, most active places get separation based on types of transit (e.g. seperate bus, subway and commuter rail threads). Most people looking for news on transit in the Delhi area wouldn't think to look in this thread, makes info people are interested in harder to find.
I understand your concern but if i had put this in the Delhi Metro thread, people (especially who are not familiar with the National Capital region) would have thought this as just another Delhi Metro line, which it is not. I can't exactly tell how different it will be but it will be a different system for sure. They have their own website, You can check it.

Actually I am all for merging this and other NCR threads but the thread title can't be ''Delhi | Metro''. Because like i said Gurgaon Rapid Metro, Noida-Gr Noida Metro and the proposed YEIDA Metro are not part of Delhi Metro. They are/will be all different. Delhi has recently approved a tram line too. Trams and Monorail have been proposed for YEIDA city too . Then there is also Regional Rapid Transit System for the whole NCR.

__________________________________

@Svartmetall, If you are thinking of merging the threads then my suggestion would be to merge all Metro, Tram and RRTS topics under:

DELHI NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION | Metro, Tram, RRTS

Projects/Systems can be covered:
  • Delhi Metro (DMRC)
  • Delhi Tram
  • Gurgaon Rapid Metro (IL&FS)
  • Noida-Greater Noida Metro (NMRC)
  • Yeida metro
  • Yeida Tram
  • NCR Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)
  • **{more to come}**

For all other modes of transport-

DELHI NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION | Public Transport

(the 'Delhi | BRTS' thread can be renamed as above)

And for those who are not familiar with the the National Capital Region or have little knowledge about the region, here is a quick summary:

Total area: 34,144 sq kms falling in the territorial jurisdictions of four State Governments namely, National Capital
Territory of Delhi, Haryana, UP, and Rajasthan.
Population: More than 46 million (rural + urban) as of 2011.
No of cities and towns: more than a 100 towns out of which 20 are class I towns/cities.
Prominent cities and Towns: New delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, greater noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, yeida, meerut, Rohtak, Panipat etc.

Work to install platform screen doors in Delhi Metro begins
March 22, 2015

New Delhi: The process to install platform screen doors in Delhi Metro has begun at the Chawri Bazar station of Yellow Line while work at five other stations would be started by April. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials said the move was primarily a part of its attempts towards crowd management which would also aid in avoiding potential harm to passengers through suicide attempts.

"The field work of the long awaited technology, whose design and related theory work was long over, has been started by way of taking measurements and by finding suitable ways of its glitch-less installation in the platforms," a metro official said

Soon, Delhi Metro to have trains that run without drivers
19 April 2015

New Delhi: The sight of driverless Delhi Metro trains whizzing past stations, crowded and deserted, is all set to become a reality as upgraded new-generation coaches are being introduced on two upcoming lines as part of its Phase-III of expansion.

Apart from “unattended” trains, the 58-km-long Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor and the 34-km-long Janakpuri (West)-Botanical Garden corridors will also have a new-age signalling system.

“The frequency of trains would increase to a much greater level and the gaps between two trains would come down to around 90 seconds due to this Communication-Based Train Control (CTBC) technology,” a Metro spokesman said
