Platform screen doors and driverless trains are used for the first time for above ground lines in Delhi (and possibly the whole country)

I really dont get it, why the Airport line has no transfer stations to other lines on its way. Only first and last stations are conected to the rest of the system. Doesnt look really smart to me.

The under-construction "Pink Line" will have a station which will be connected externally to a Airport Line Station

Interesting station designs here for the green line extension. Looks quite cheap tbh...

Christmas gift from Delhi Metro: PM Modi to open Botanical Garden-Kalkaji line next week
The Botanical Garden-Kalkaji Mandir section of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25

Here’s some good news for people commuting between Noida and south Delhi. A section of the awaited Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro — from Botanical Garden to Kalkaji Mandir — is going to open to the public from December 25.

The 12.64-km stretch is part of the 38.23-km Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West corridor under the Metro’s Phase III of the expansion plans, and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

December 25 has been a significant date for the Delhi Metro as its first line — the Red Line from Dilshad Garden to Rithala — was inaugurated on Christmas 2002. The line was flagged off by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

With the opening of the new line, Noida residents will save at least 45 minutes of commute time while travelling to south Delhi.

The section that is opening has nine stations: Botanical Garden, Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Kalindi Kunj, Jasola Vihar-Shaheen Bagh, Okhla Vihar, Jamia Milia Islamia, Sukhdev Vihar, Okhla NSIC and Kalkaji Mandir.

Kalkaji Mandir is underground and the others are elevated. The route will cater to two major educational institutions — Jamia Millia Islamia and Amity University.

The Botanical Garden Metro station will be the first interchange station outside Delhi and since both Botanical Garden and Kalkaji Mandir are interchange stations, there will be a significant reduction in travelling time between the Blue and Violet Lines.

Once the entire corridor opens, commuters from Noida will be able to go to Gurgaon by changing trains at Hauz Khas. The commute from Noida and Faridabad will also get shorter. Passengers between Noida and Faridabad will change trains at Kalkaji Mandir.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Magenta Line, which will reduce the travel time between Noida and south Delhi to 19 minutes, is set to be opened for public from 5pm on December 25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Botanical Garden-Kalkaji Mandir section on the line that is eventually going to extend till Janakpuri.

DMRC on Friday organised a media tour of the line that is touted as a metro corridor with many firsts. The new trains that can run without a driver will be put on tracks for the first time on Magenta Line. However, people will have to wait for two more years before these trains run on auto mode.

The platforms at all the nine stations will have screen doors for safety of passengers. DMRC had installed such doors are only on the Airport Express Line thus far. The seats will be coloured and there are backrests for those standing in the train. This is also the only line in the Delhi Metro network to have an interchange station in the NCR. Botanic Garden in Noida will allow passengers to go to Faridabad on Violet Line without having to travel to Mandi House first.

Though there was some panic earlier this week when a train meant for Magenta Line broke through a wall in a Metro depot, DMRC said there was no hold-up and public can travel on the line from Monday.

Initially, the frequency of the trains will be 5 minute 14 seconds with 10 trains being pressed into service.

DMRC said on Friday that the cost of the journey between Botanical Garden and Kalkaji Mandir will be Rs 30 against Rs 50 earlier due to the new interchange station.

A DMRC spokesperson said the Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden section will be opened for public from 5pm on Monday, December 25.

There will be provision to add more space. Equipments under the seats can be used to make space for an additional 12 passengers.

Trains have USB charging points.
“Trains are absolutely safe for operation. At the time of incident (when a train hit the wall), train was not on automated mode,” Delhi Metro’s spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.

Fully programmable LCD screens will display videos, graphics and other information.

Extension of baggage scanners will help passengers in picking the baggage faster.

The 12.64-long Magenta Line corridor will have nine stations connecting Blue and Violet line of Delhi Metro.

And here's the news today:

PM Modi flags off Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line
Urges people to use public transport

Quote:
NEW DELHI, DEC 25: On the day the Delhi Metro completed 15 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flags off Magenta line, a 12.64 km long section, taking the total network size closer to 350 km. The line will be thrown open to public at 5 pm today.

After DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh briefed the PM, he travelled in the metro train, with others including UP Governor Ram Naik, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Cabinet Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Mahesh Sharma. With this, Noida, a satellite city of New Delhi, gets another metro connection to parts of the country’s capital city - New Delhi.

The Noida-located Botanical Garden station connecting – Delhi located Kalkaji Mandir Metro section shall be opened in the evening for commercial operations. With this line, footfall at Noida’s Botanical Garden station is expected to increase three times – from 30,000 to 97,000 passengers daily.

his is also Delhi Metro’s first ever corridor to use driverless trains. According to DMRC, this is the first ever train to be used with Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling technology which facilitates movement of trains with a frequency of 90 to 100 seconds. The new age Unattended Train Operation (UTO) enabled trains also will be operated for the first time on this section.

Delhi Metro is a 50:50 joint venture of the Centre and state of Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was not invited for the event.
