One segment of the East-West Route - its western part, in Retkinia and Karolew residential areas - is already open.

An extensive photo report is available here:

It looks so in the city map:

RED is the segment which is already open.

BLUE and GREEN are going to be opened on October 31st.
BLUE is the part where the tram tracks have already existed and they got renovated.
GREEN are the segments where new sections of tram tracks have been built.

Beautiful panoramic view of the Łódź Fabryczna station and the future New City Centre:

It enables the trams from the main north-east line stop at a common station with the trams from the main east-west line. To make tram changes easier.

Before it was so that the pedestrian crossing between the two stops in these lines was the most "loaded" pedestrian crossing in the city: https://goo.gl/maps/jqByDsHGBt62

Sometimes it was really crowded. And there was no much room in the passage between the two pedestrian crossings. This was also the place with the biggest number of car-pedestrian accidents in the city.

Another advantage of this is that a new tram loop appeared - around the block: Mickiewicza, Piotrkowska, Żwirki, Kościuszki. It can be used in case of any traffic problems. There will be no need of trams going from the intersection Mickiewicza/Piotrkowska to far tram loops just to make a turn around when a section of tram line gets blocked. It often happens, for example, that the tracks in Piotrkowska street between Żwirki street and Plac Niepodległości (Independence Square) are blocked because of some religious or patriotic celebrations in front of the cathedral.

Glad to hear also that development sites around the new city centre are being bought up and some projects have already broken ground. Keep up the good work Lodz

There were some doubts how it will look like, but with the lighting it's really impressive.

Yet one photo of the Fabryczna station:

Source: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...postcount=8961 - it says that it is a photo "borrowed" from Facebook, taken by Wiesław Stępień. The previous one too.

In the "triangle" to the north from the station (in this photo it's below), as well as to the east next to the Kilińskiego street (not visible well here) there are already new commercial investments emerging. At the corner of Kilińskiego and Składowa streets a new building, which is supposed to become a landmark, is going to appear - the City Gate.

I have qusetion. In article on Rail Journal mentioned this:

Quote:
http://www.railjournal.com/index.php...ml?channel=526

In addition to the extension, the two-year Zlotys 500m ($US 129.5m) project included construction of a 2km tram tunnel in the city centre, track relaying, reconstruction of Piotrkowska Centrum station with a new overall roof, new passenger information systems, and resignalling with priority signalling for trams at road intersections
Where is that 2km tram tunnel on map?

This is total bull***, there is no tunnel for trams, only for cars. And length is not that great. You cen see it in Kpc post.

One of the earlier concepts for that was a tram tunnel, but they finally decided for the car tunnel and trams on the surface for better access to the trams.

Aren't all these cars on the left parked on pedestrian area?
What is police doing about that?

Is the new PESA tram air-conditioned?
