Yeah, I'm not a fan either. Such a downgrade from the original design...

I'm a huge fan; this one gets better and better with each refinement and I don't see it as a "downgrade" at all.
Plus it is considerably taller now than the original design, and to my eye less stereotypically "Foster" than the first:

Totally! I'll take it any day over the original, which to me had a lot of confusion. And I'm really not sure why so many renderings just stick plants and trees all over
the place. I guess to make it look like a "greener" project. This was the original design:

What a stunner this promises to be. I thought it would be hard to top One Bloor across the street but this one will. Makes you wonder what will eventually go on the NE and NW corner of Yonge and Bloor.

It's likely foolhardy to believe that the CIBC tower and Hudson's Bay tower will still be there 10-15 years from now. The way Yorkville is developing, both will get re-developed.

Both this proposal and that current brutalist building are awesome.

The brutalist building reminds me of something out of Buck Rogers. It's one of my favourite buildings in the city. The juxtaposition of it and the Foster proposal is fantastic. The mash up of different architecture is one of Toronto's best qualities.

Also, this has lost some height. Apparently the developer downsized a bit, down to 75 floors and 304m.

^part of the planning process in Toronto. Developer here wanted to engage in the surrounding community, so he applied with a very preliminary plan, and did all the revisions in the public eye instead of before initial application like typical. Buildings in Toronto often receive complete redesigns, its pretty common.

Was there another design change with the decrease in height? This will still be very prominent even with the minor height decrease, so hopefully the design remains solid.

My understanding is that the design is essentially the same. I believe this is largely the version that will get built, they are getting pretty close to final approval.
