NEW YORK | 8 East 37th Street | 213m | 699ft | 65 fl | Pro

A valuable site in Midtown with no height restrictions is for sale. A skyscraper or even a supertall could be built by the new owner.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As per Acris, these two derilict buildings sold on the 14th of November, 2013 to the 12-14 E 37th St Development Corp, and the buyer entered into an air rights transfer agreement with an adjacent owner a few days afterward. It will be interesting to see what's built here and when it will commence. These four story buildings are still occupied by a Papa johns and a Subway.

This horrible junk is completely out of character with the area and can't come down soon enough.

For example, this stunning structure is on the same block. (Although this shot is on the 5th Ave side, the 37th St side is identical.)

As per Curbed...

PS: Another tower will likely rise two sites away at 12 E 37th.

Interesting! I like it. It reminds me a little bit of that proposal for a tower at Madison Sq Park. (One Madison Ave)

65-Story, Garden-Centric Condo Tower Planned for East 37th
http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2015/0..._east_37th.php

Quote:
A tall, slender condo tower designed by Perkins+Will is headed for East 37th Street. The design for the tower, which is bisected by five open-air gardens, debuted in Cannes, France as part of MIPIM, "an international property event," where it won an award. The developer is the Turkish firm Nef, which is part of Timur Holding, and the building is set to rise 65 stories and more than 700 feet

Quote:
The five open-air gardens, for example, are arranged as a series of overlapping, angled, and diverse spaces all within easy reach -- four stories maximum – from any given condominium unit. "The idea is to create a new kind of communal ecosystem of social relationships within a thin tower design," says Scott Allen, an associate architect and designer with Perkins+Will. "Rather than giving residents small, almost unusable balconies as seen in many towers, they will enjoy big community terraces that are the kind of social and interactive spaces in high demand today."

Each community space features a variety of amenities, from event rooms, a chef's table, private yoga studio, art room, exterior Jacuzzi, fitness room, terraced gardens, an outdoor cinema, observatory, and at the tower's top level, an infinity pool and roof terrace garden. Wind speeds, which can be high in upper floors of tall buildings are controlled by architectural screening and outdoor space configuration.

The plans for the building have been so under wraps that even the press team for Perkins+Will did not know the address of the site (they are getting back to us).

UPDATE: A Curbed commenter thinks the address may be 8 East 37th Street, and Google Streetview shows that property is currently vacant, but other sources say that the address is actually 12 East 37th Street.

maybe it's the angle but compared to ESB it looks to be ~300+ meters

800 feet, easy. My guess is 880 - 920ft.

New York is unstoppable.

Good f-ing riddance! Any news about what's going on with the vacant lot between 10 East 37th Street and the old Tiffany & Company Building? I wouldn't mind if the redevelopment spanned to that lot, as long as the new building is beautiful enough to warrant the demolition of 10 East 37th Street as an acceptable sacrifice.

EDIT: Nevermind...

Today

These little eyesores (12-14 E 37th St)are separated from the development lot by one building. These little junks should be coming down soon. They were sold in2014, and as per Acris, the owner acquired air rights.

These great neighbors deserve someThing good!

I wish all NY developments were like this. Show a render first and then bring out the info and details.

Looking closely at that photo, this tower will rise at 12-14 E 37th. The tower is clearly to the east of the approx 15 story reddish building that separates 12-14 from the empty lot at No. 8.

This thread should be closed. The photo that VG posted clearly shows that this tower will be located at 12-14 E. 37th -- Not at the Vacant lot at No. 8. I started a thread For 12-14 months ago after the property was Sold, and the new owner. Purchased air Rights.
