Yesterday

These are the little eyesores (12-14 E 37th St) that comprise the site. They were sold in2014, and as per Acris, the owner acquired air rights.

They are fully occupied by a Subway, a dry cleaner, and apartments. I suspect that all occupants have month-to-month leases.



This empty lot nearby is another development site.

It's a great concept... hopefully if there are changes it won't be negative. Glad they aimed high because this is beautiful and something people will really appreciate as artistic as well as a nice building.

I wonder if the air rights could be transferred to Nef's tower. I like the proportions right now, but it might look a little too bamboo-shoot thin if it got much taller.

As per Acris, Nef already bought air rights from a small building on 36th St.

Sorry I meant specifically the rights from 8 E. 37th. But it makes sense that Nef has already accumulated some air rights -- that tower is damned tall for such a tiny site.

Really love the design in those renders. Very classy profile, interesting cladding pattern, and the sky gardens tie it all together (in addition to having unimpeachably awesome views, I'm sure). My sense is that design competition entries are often not fully fleshed out and tend to change, but I hope this one remains more or less intact.

NEF is a big real estate company in Turkey. They have a lot of construction sites in Istanbul. Glad to see them also in the United States

I am not sure if I like the top bit, but I like the overall buildings. NYC is back in the 20s, with a ton of new super talls.

It definitely looks more than 700 feet even given the strange angle.

Either the article is mistaken or whoever drew the rendering did a bad job

It's gorgeous even at 700 ft but until definitely indicated otherwise the tower looks at least in the 800-900 ft range to me.
