Only 5,700 for Sao Paulo?

That number can't be right.

It think Sao Paulo is close in number of highrises (+12f) as Shanghai 10-12k, but unfortunately no building over 200m and only a few over 150m.

Supertalls? even a dozen buildings @250m would make a dramatic impact over Sao Paulo skyline.

I hear Sao Paulo has few skyscrapers because of a height limit imposed by the nearby airport. I think that's changing?

I dont believe that number. I think its only city official claimed for propaganda. Or just still planning.

According the Emporis : Shanghai only have about 1000 buildings.
http://www.emporis.com/city/100213/shanghai-china

I believe with Emporis since they have a completed list of the highrise building not just number claim. If you want me to believe you must give a me a complete list Shanghai highrise building not just city official claimed.

What about the picture ?? i only see hundreds highrise buldings in Shanghai. There is a lot of picture from another city like New York, Moscow, Hongkong, Singapore etc that looks like Shanghai picture with hundreds of highrise.

Really?

Good thing you believe the propaganda that tell you not to believe the propaganda.

Emporis is vastly inaccurate for chinese cities.

Just look at numbers for Shenzhen... 325 highrises... that's a grid of 18x18 highrises.

What do you think? Is Emporis right? or do you see more than 18x18 highrises? (remember that Emporis consider a highrise building any building with more than 12 floors)

Emporis relies on data submitted by visitors to its website. It will only accept that data in German (where the website is based) and English, much to the chagrin of some of our members here, such as Zorg (Spanish forumer) who compiled quite a list of the supertall projects in China.

The other point to make is the data from Shanghai's Council is not being used as 'propaganda' and is not publicised in any way - in fact it's pretty much buried in a mountain of public data one can download from the website. It stems from an obscure reference to the housing situation (amount and size of of buildings being added each year) in a report published by the Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission every two years.

The only person I know of who found it has been on this forum.

Also zoom in on the megapixel horizon. There is definitely more highrises here than in Hong Kong for example

http://sh-meet.bigpixel.cn/

(on an unrelated note, can anyone spot or know why there is a sensitive area on that horizon that's been blurred out?)

Shanghai is a much bigger city than Hong Kong, so I'm not at all surprised they would have more highrises with several times the population!

Unfortunately not.

Curiosity:In 1999, an investment group tried to build the tallest building in the world in Sao Paulo. The Maharishi São Paulo Tower would have 510m and demolish 100 blocks in downtown.

I dont believe Shanghai had more than 10.000 highrise. Who is the buyer anyway ? a highrise building (office, apartment) it can contain more than 100 units office or apartment. If Shanghai had more than 10.000 high there must be at least 1.000.000 units office or apartment in Shanghai. The question is who is the buyer ? how they promoted the building ?? they arent in the daily newspaper advertisments.

If you complaint Emporis is not accurate you should inform the Emporis about the highrise building in Shanghai. Other cities can claiming to that their highrise actually were bigger than emporis number. We cant knowing is that a true or just a citizen claimed.

According to Emporis : New York had more than 300.000 low rise building and if you check the list you can find thousands New York building contains 10-11 storey. But it didnt classified as highrise.

You know that Shanghai in 2014 has a population of over 24 million and growing. 90% of the population is "urban". So yes they need ALOT of high rise apartments and office buildings.

Have you even read a newspaper in Shanghai? Better yet, have you even been to Shanghai?

FYI:
citizen ≠ government statistics
Argument Invalid.

The definition of a high rise is +12 stories. So yes New York has thousands 10-11 story lowrises.
