Vancouver International Airport named the 2016 Best Airport in the World

http://dailyhive.com/vancouver/world...al-airport-yvr

Quote:
Canada’s second largest airport has won yet another accolade, this time landing the title of 2016’s ‘Best Airport in the World’.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) was awarded the title by the CAPA Centre (CPAC) for Aviation in a ceremony held in Amsterdam earlier today.

.......

But unlike the annual Skytrax awards largely based on passenger comfort and airport design, which YVR has consecutively won, the CAPAC title is given to the airport that is the biggest standout strategically, has turned itself into a leader, and done the most to advance the progress of the global aviation industry.

Barely any restaurants? For its size, YVR punches way above its ticket for amount of restaurants. Lots of choices before and after security

After security the international terminal only has fast food and Starbucks. They have a Subway, A&W, Church's, Famous Famiglia and Hanami Express. That's it.

The US departures area is a bit better with the Canucks Bar & Grill, some other restaurant, Starbucks and a couple fast foods joints.

The Domestic departures terminal has more options.

The thing is, once you pass security you can't go between the US and International departure areas since you've already pre-cleared US customs.

The fact that Tim hortons was removed from the international post security area is a shame.

So they're projecting 37 million passengers by 2037. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get to 40 million by 2030.

China Southern has started booking for 3 weekly CAN-YVR-MEX, starting April 10. Flights will be on 787-8. This raises capacity on CAN-YVR to 10 weekly.

Vancouver airport encounters its busiest travel day of the season
YVR says it expects around 83,000 passengers will pass through the airport Thursday
CBC News Excerpt
December 22, 2017

It's the peak of the holiday season at Vancouver International Airport, where Thursday is expected to be YVR's busiest travel day of the year.

Up to 83,000 passengers are flying in and out every day during the holidays, says YVR media relations, but Thursday is expected to be the busiest travel day.

The six busiest days are Dec. 21 and 22 — when kids typically get out of school — Boxing Day, Dec. 28 and 29, and Jan. 1, when people are coming back for work and school, said Reg Krake, YVR director of customer care.

Passengers should take extra time to get to the airport and check with their airlines on the status and timing of their flights, Krake said.

"Really, leave yourself an extra hour, right from home for all the normal things you expect to do, including checking in online at home ... Also, leave time to get there on the roads, for parking, for check-in, getting through security and getting to your gate," Krake said.
