In 1994 Portugal bought the following F16's:

17 Lockeed-Martin F-16A/OCU Fighting Falcon (still active)
3 Lockeed-Martin F-16B/OCU Fighting Falcon (still active)

In 2003:

21 Lockeed-Martin F-16A/MLU Fighting Falcon
4 Lockeed-Martin F-16B/MLU Fighting Falcon

The portuguese air-force also has 50 Alpha Jet's, among others.

and some questions :
You have still operational the A-7P Corsairs ? In greecw we have also A-7E/H and are still in use as bombardiers.
And aoubt the EH-101 Hellicopters , they belong to the army ot the airforce/navy?

yes, we do. As for the helicopters, they are part of the airforce.

Portugal needs to defend/control its maritime territory, which is about 4 times the actual size of the country, or something like that. I presume the military believes the only way of doing it is by air.
